Industrial Sewing Trainee

Tulmar designs, manufactures and distributes engineered protective textiles, survivability and safety solutions for the Aerospace, Defence and Public Security industries.

Headquartered in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Tulmar operates a modern 60,000 square foot facility with equipment ranging from computerized cutting tables, stitching machines R.F. (radio frequency) welding and heat-sealing equipment to highly sophisticated testing and certification equipment including cold temperature test chambers, inertia reel testing equipment and computerized measurement and test equipment for quality inspection.

What is the Sewing Academy?

The Tulmar Sewing Academy is a paid 4 week training program where participants receive hands-on instruction from experienced trainers in a supportive learning environment. During the program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of industrial sewing, quality standards, and workplace safety—setting you up for success on the production floor.

What Happens After the Program?

Participants who successfully complete the program and meet performance expectations will be offered a full-time position as a Sewing Machine Operator with Tulmar Safety Systems.

What You’ll Learn & Do in the Sewing Academy:

As a participant in Tulmar’s Sewing Academy, you will be supported through hands-on learning and guided practice, including:

• Develop foundational sewing skills by assembling fabric components according to work instructions and quality standards

• Understand basic shop safety and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Set up your workstation properly and learn good ergonomics

• Thread and prepare an industrial sewing machine

• Control the foot pedal (speed and stopping) for accurate stitching

• Practice straight stitching on scrap material

• Gain an understanding of aerospace and safety textile quality requirements.

• Learn how to measure, cut, and prepare materials using both metric and imperial measurement systems

• Perform basic machine setup, adjustments, and preventative maintenance with supervision

• Build awareness of workplace safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment

• Work collaboratively with trainers and team members in a production environment

• Receive ongoing feedback, coaching, and skill development throughout the program

What you need to succeed:

• Willingness to learn new skills in a hands-on manufacturing environment

• Positive attitude and strong work ethic

• Ability to follow instructions, safety guidelines, and quality standards

• Basic understanding of measurements (metric and/or imperial) or willingness to learn

• Good hand dexterity and attention to detail

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)

• Reliability and punctuality

• Flexible and willing to accept new challenges

• Valid Police Records Check
