Senior Accountant - Manufacturing

Tulmar designs, manufactures, and distributes engineered protective textiles and survivability solutions for the Aerospace, Defence, and Public Security industries. Operating from a modern 60,000 sq. ft. facility, we combine advanced manufacturing with in-house testing and certification.

We are looking for a Senior Accountant – Manufacturing to join our Finance & Corporate Services team.

The Opportunity

The Senior Accountant – Manufacturing will play a key role in Tulmar's financial operations, combining manufacturing costing, inventory accounting, period-end reporting, financial analysis and hands-on accounting responsibilities .

Working directly with the VP, Finance & Corporate Services, you will take ownership of defined accounting and month-end activities while developing a strong understanding of our manufacturing operations. You will work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality and other teams to ensure our financial information is accurate, timely and useful for decision-making.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys understanding how the numbers connect to what is happening on the manufacturing floor, investigating discrepancies and finding practical ways to improve processes.

The initial priority is a successful handover and dependable execution of existing processes. Broader financial-reporting responsibilities will transfer through an agreed plan, taking account of onboarding progress and the ongoing workload.

What You'll Do

Manufacturing Costing & Inventory

• Maintain standard costs for manufactured items and perform approved cost roll-ups and purchased-part cost adjustments.

• Investigate material, labour and overhead variances; contribute to gross-margin reporting and product or job profitability reviews.

• Review production activity, labour data, material usage, shop-floor orders, backflushing and work-in-progress (WIP).

• Complete manufacturing month-end processing and shop-floor order closure.

• Prepare inventory valuations and reconcile raw materials, finished goods and WIP to the general ledger.

• Support inventory counts and investigate inventory and costing discrepancies in collaboration with Operations, Supply Chain and Quality.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Own agreed parts of the month-end close, preparing supporting schedules, reconciliations and variance explanations for VP review.

• Prepare assigned financial and operational analyses, including inventory and receivables trends and their effect on working capital. Provide supporting information for budgeting, cash planning, and year-end and audit requests as assigned.

• Progressively take on additional general-ledger and financial-reporting responsibilities transferred by the VP, including journal entries, bank and balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and depreciation schedules. Support the preparation of draft financial statements and broader reporting as part of this transition.

Receivables & Cash Application

• Post and apply customer receipts, reconcile receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.

• Issue customer statements as needed, maintain expected-payment updates for cash planning, and coordinate payment or billing queries with the appropriate colleagues.

Systems, Controls & Continuous Improvement

• Maintain clear accounting procedures, supporting documentation and appropriate financial controls.

• Support Finance ERP users and help improve data quality, reconciliations and recurring reporting.

• Collaborate with business systems and analytics colleagues to identify, test and implement practical process improvements.

• Cross-train colleagues and provide reliable accounting backup where required.

• Identify root causes of recurring issues and look for opportunities to make processes more efficient without compromising accuracy or controls.

What You Bring

• Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience , including account reconciliations and month-end activities.

• Hands-on experience with inventory and cost accounting .

• Manufacturing standard costing and WIP experience are strongly preferred; relevant inventory or job-costing experience will also be considered.

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• CPA designation or active progress toward CPA is an asset, but not required.

• Strong practical Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup and conditional-sum formulas , and the ability to reconcile and analyze accounting data.

• Experience using ERP/accounting systems and working with their data. SQL querying for reporting and analysis is an asset; experience with Power Query or other reporting and analytics tools is also an asset. Tulmar currently uses Macola; prior Macola experience is not required.

• Strong attention to detail, accounting judgment and practical problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

• Strong organization, communication and follow-through.

• Must be eligible under the Controlled Goods Program and ITAR (Canadian citizen or permanent resident) and able to obtain a Police Records Check.

• English is required; French is an asset.

Pay: CA$75,000.00 - CA$95,000.00 per year
