Reporting to the Director of Finance / Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Finance Manager is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support for the daily operations of the Finance Department. This position plays a key role in financial management, reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and accounting standards. The Finance Manager provides guidance and support to staff and departments while promoting effective financial practices, continuous improvement, accountability, and responsible stewardship of municipal resources. What you bring
Required:
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive financial experience, preferably within a public sector or local government environment.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or management experience, preferably within a unionized environment.
- Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Thorough knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, fund accounting, internal controls, and best practices.
- Knowledge of municipal finance, financial planning, analysis, and business planning.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, bylaws, policies, and procedures.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, support, and supervise staff.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, projects, deadlines, and confidential information.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Preferred:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or currently working toward designation.
- Experience with municipal finance software including MAIS and Questica.
- Experience preparing reports, business cases, policies, procedures, and financial presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with employees, leadership, Council, external partners, and agencies.
- Ability to identify improvements, implement solutions, and support organizational change
