The Role
Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Hearing Screener and play a vital role in giving every newborn the best possible start in life. Working within a skilled and supportive Audiology team, you will carry out hearing screening for babies across maternity units and community settings. This rewarding role involves direct contact with newborns and their families, providing reassurance, support and essential early detection of hearing needs.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Duration Permanent
- Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity
- Hours - Full Time (36 hours)
- Working Pattern: Monday-Sunday (Must be comfortable with a shift pattern over 7 days)
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out newborn hearing screening in maternity units and community clinics, ensuring accurate and timely results
- Identify babies requiring screening and support follow-up processes where needed
- Record clinical data accurately and maintain all required documentation
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers and multidisciplinary teams in a supportive and sensitive manner
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold dignity, privacy and family-centred care at all times
- Adhere to infection control, health and safety and child protection policies
- Ensure equipment is used safely and report any issues promptly
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Experience working within a healthcare or multidisciplinary environment, preferably with patients or families
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a caring and professional approach
- Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and within a team
- Basic IT skills, including accurate data entry and use of systems
- Awareness of confidentiality, health and safety and infection control practices
- Experience of directly handling or caring for newborn babies within a professional or care setting, out with own family
