Job Overview: We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Respite Workers to provide individualized and group-based support to children between the ages of 5 and 12 with autism. As a Respite Worker, you will have the opportunity to empower children to discover their potential and have fun in a supportive environment. You will design and facilitate a diverse range of play-based activities that cater to the interests and needs of each child.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with the respite lead to implement fun and engaging activities for all children.
• Facilitate individual and group activities, including games, crafts, and other interactive experiences.
• Monitor and respect children's interests, wants, and comfort levels, ensuring their safety at all times.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where children feel valued and encouraged to try new things.
• Prepare materials as needed for activities.
• Assist with daily setup and cleanup of the activity area.
• Support child participation in engaging and enjoyable activities.
• Utilize visual supports such as picture schedules, visual timers, and social stories to assist children throughout the daily routine.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree completed or in progress in the following areas: education, disability studies, psychology, or related fields.
• Previous experience working with children in a group setting.
• Previous experience working with autistic children is preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Clear Criminal Record Check.
• Clear Child Intervention Record Check.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.

Schedule:

We are offering 4 weeks of respite programming over the summer:

• July 22-26
• July 29-August 2
• August 12-16
• August 19-23

Respite is scheduled for Monday to Friday.

Respite shifts will be from 8:45 AM - 1:15 PM.

While preference will be given to individuals available all 4 weeks, we will accept varying availability.

Successful candidates may have the option to continue respite work in the fall, on Saturdays.

Job Types: Part-time, SeasonalContract length: 4 weeks

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 25 per week
