The following Sessional Lecturer positions are available in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media for the FALL 2026 academic session. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, this posting is being sent as an email notification to all applicants in the Department’s Applicant Pool: all Sessional Lecturers who are teaching for the Department during the current academic year or who have taught for the Department since September 1, 2005, and all persons who have submitted an application within the past twenty-four months. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with 14:12.

Salary

In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term (Six or more years as SL I): $10,699.22

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Sessional Dates (excluding Exam period): F courses: Sept. 8 – Dec. 8, 2026

Note : all positions involve completion of any course grading not finished by December 31, 2026 for F courses.

VPSB02H3F Image Culture How should artists make pictures in a world inundated with a relentless flow of digital images? Can pictures shape our understanding of the social world and influence mainstream culture? Through the perspective of contemporary artmaking, this lecture course will explore ways that artists decentre and decolonize the image and concepts of authorship, representation, truth, and the gaze. The course will also examine the role of visual technologies (cameras, screens, microscopes), distribution formats (the photographic print, mobile devices, the Internet), and picture making (ubiquitous capture, synthetic media, artificial intelligence) to consider how artists respond to changing ideas about the visible world.	LEC 01 In-person FR 10-1	September 1 - December 31, 2026	55	75	All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; participation in Studio’s exhibitions and guest lecture opportunities on campus; development, administration and marking of assignments and final portfolios; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours. Applicant to work closely with permanent faculty.	Teaching experience at the university level including lecture format classes. Instructor must have expertise in the history of modern and contemporary art with a specific focus on visual and digital technologies. Candidates with training in art history, curatorial practice, or art practice will be considered. A background as an active professional artist with practical knowledge and experience with art production will be considered an asset.
