Overview

The Research Coordinator will participate in research-related tasks to support the research team with all background research required for the project. This may include assisting with the development of an action plan for the research team, ethics proposals, surveys, interviews, policies, and protocols, in addition to supporting our Dilico partners in this work. Once all necessary research supports are in place, the Coordinator will then assist with the recruitment process for study participants (including coordinating study posters and flyers, interacting with the community at local events, etc). The Coordinator will also assist with data collection (interviews, circles, surveys, assessments),coordinate interviews and meetings with participants, coordinate space rentals and catering, handle travel arrangements for participants and the research team, assist with qualitative data analysis, data management, and data processing (including reviewing transcripts for accuracy).The Coordinator will also contribute to project dissemination activities, including but not limited to preparing manuscripts and reports for Dilico.

Responsibilities

The Coordinator will be involved in various aspects of the community-based research project including but not limited to: Brain Health Cafe Program Recruitment, Implementation, and Evaluation

• Assist with recruitment.
• Contact speakers and provide on-site support for them.
• Contact and coordinate catering / Food & Beverage services.
• Organize travel if needed for attendees.
• Obtain equipment and supplies needed for the café, such as gifts for speakers, activity materials, prizes, and project-related swag.
• Provide support for Dilico staff and research team on-site.
• Assist with data collection for program evaluation as needed (e.g., administering surveys).
• Maintain ongoing relationships with community members through follow-up communication, check-ins, and responsiveness to community-identified needs.
• Assist with quantitative and qualitative data collection for the Brain Health Cafe program evaluation.
• Assist with qualitative and quantitative data analysis and evaluation.
• Review qualitative data transcripts for accuracy.
• Assist with project data analysis, as required, for Brain Health Fairs and Circles/Interviews

Health Guidance Support

• Conduct and coordinate the evaluation of current health guidance for usefulness, effectiveness, and cultural safety (e.g., message framing).
• Conduct and coordinate scoping reviews (e.g., components of effective health communication and current approaches for Indigenous people) with the research team.
• Conduct and coordinate the development and evaluation of new evidence-based health guidance, including brochures, workshops, and videos.

Brain Health Fair / Circles / Interviews

• Assist the senior research coordinator with data collection and analysis of the knowledge-gathering circles and interviews as part of the Brain Health Fair, as needed.
• Knowledge Dissemination and Logistics
• Attend all team meetings, including but not limited to the research team meetings, Dilico advisory committee meetings, etc.
• Assist with identifying and creating engaging materials for knowledge dissemination.
• Assist with report writing for the project.
• Assist with original research and review papers (e.g., screening abstracts, full texts, writing, etc.) as needed.
• Assist with planning the Integration Circle and National Consensus team meeting and provide on-site support

Generic Responsibilities

• Applies specialized expertise in community-based and Indigenous health research to design and evaluate evidence-based, culturally safe health guidance materials. Identifies project limitations and assists with the development of research action plans, institutional ethics proposals, and specialized study protocols.
• Utilizes advanced knowledge to conduct thorough scoping reviews on effective health communication. Reviews and interprets published literature, screens abstracts, and co-writes project reports, Dilico briefs, and academic manuscripts for project dissemination.
• Contributes to the development and evaluation of data collection tools (surveys, assessments) and protocols. Employs mixed-methods data analysis and rigorous data management practices, including reviewing qualitative transcripts for accuracy.
• Coordinates operational project plans and logistics for local programs. Facilitates data collection via focus groups, interviews, and knowledge-gathering circles within established research protocols.
• Exercises independent judgment when managing data and coordinating logistics. Cultivates and maintains key external relationships with community members and Dilico advisory stakeholders, effectively presenting ideas and collaborating across organizations.
• Work is split between an office/campus setting at Lakehead University and field environments, requiring regular regional travel across the District of Thunder Bay to support community events and program implementation.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Psychology, or a related discipline, with relevant research experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience coordinating research projects, including managing timelines, meetings, and deliverables
• Knowledge of research methodologies, data collection, and analysis techniques
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report and manuscript preparation
• Proficiency in research-related software, databases, and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation
