Java Backend Developer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Developer to join our Fixed Income eTrading Technology team in Mississauga, Ontario. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical, high-performance electronic trading platforms that support one of the industry's leading Rates eTrading businesses.

As part of a globally distributed technology team, you will design, develop, and enhance next-generation trading applications that enable real-time pricing, market making, risk management, and electronic trade execution. You will collaborate closely with Traders, Sales, Quantitative Analysts, and global technology teams to deliver innovative, low-latency solutions that drive business growth and maintain a competitive advantage in the financial markets.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development & Design

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications supporting Fixed Income and Rates eTrading platforms.
• Build scalable, resilient, and low-latency solutions using Core Java and modern enterprise technologies.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to strategic technology initiatives.
• Drive engineering excellence by promoting software design best practices, code quality, and maintainability.
• Work directly with Traders, Sales teams, and Quantitative Analysts to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Enhance trading workflows, pricing engines, execution systems, and risk management applications.
• Improve platform performance, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Performance Optimization & Support

• Troubleshoot complex production issues involving performance, concurrency, and scalability.
• Optimize system throughput and latency in mission-critical trading environments.
• Provide third-level production support during trading hours when required.
• Collaborate with support and development teams globally to resolve issues and deliver enhancements.

Quality Engineering

• Champion automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps best practices.
• Improve test automation coverage and streamline User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes.
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

• 7+ years of hands‑on experience in server‑side Core Java development.
• Strong expertise in:
  • Java
  • Spring Framework
  • Spring Boot
  • Spring MVC
  • Multi‑threading and concurrent programming
• Strong knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS).
• Solid understanding of:

Software Engineering

• Strong architectural and design skills.
• Experience building scalable enterprise applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing Front Office trading systems within investment banking or capital markets environments.
• Knowledge of Fixed Income products including:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
