Location: 30 Hours weekly In Office, Monday to Friday (Could lead to full-time & hybrid depending on performance)

Contract : Part-Time, 1 year Contract

Salary: $27 per hour

Reports to : Senior Manager, Human Resources

Fife House is an innovative, client-focused provider of secure and supportive affordable housing and services to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area. With approximately 110 staff working across 6 locations, in 2020-2021, Fife House served more than 850 residents and clients by providing supportive and transitional housing programs and outreach programs to homeless clients and their families.

A BOUT THE ROLE:

The Labour Relations Specialist will manage and administer labour relations policies and procedures. This role involves negotiating collective bargaining agreements, resolving labour disputes, and ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a thorough understanding of labour laws, and experience handling union-related matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• · Collective Bargaining: Assist the Senior Manager in negotiations with unions to develop and revise collective bargaining agreements.
• · Dispute Resolution: Serve as a point of contact for employee and/or management concerns, grievances, and disputes, facilitating communication between staff and management. Conduct investigations into employee complaints and recommend appropriate actions.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant labour laws and regulations.
• Policy Development: Assist with the development and implementation of labour relations strategies that align with Fife House goals, policies, and procedures.
• Training: Conduct training sessions for management and employees on topics related to labour relations. What do you think of this: Assist in the development and delivery of training programs related to labour relations and conflict resolution directed to both management and staff.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of labour relations activities and agreements, prepare reports and presentations on labour relations matters to management.
• Advisory: Provide advice and support to management on labour relations issues.
• Investigations and Complaints: Work with managers to investigate and resolve employee complaints and grievances. Create and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Perform risk assessments: Identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks. Analyze workplace accidents and incidents to prevent future occurrences.
• Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB): Collaborate with managers to ensure compliance with WSIB regulations and manage related claims.
• Return to Work (RTW): Develop and implement return-to-work programs for employees recovering from injuries or illnesses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in labour relations or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
• Experience working with unions and collective bargaining agreements.
• Certification in Labour Relations or Human Resources.
• Joint Occupational Health & Safety Certificate

Working Conditions:

• Office environment with occasional travel to various work sites.
• May require extended hours during negotiations or dispute resolutions.

• Computer: Proficient with Advanced skills in Day Force, MS Office, Asana, and Adobe DC Pro.
• Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate collective bargaining agreements and resolve disputes between employees and management.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information and facilitate discussions.
• Conflict Resolution: Proficiency in mediating conflicts and finding mutually acceptable solutions.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, unions, and management.
• Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving skills to address and resolve labour-related issues.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and compliance with regulations.
• Ethical Judgment: High ethical standards and integrity to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
• Knowledge of Labour Laws: Thorough understanding of labour laws, regulations, and collective bargaining processes. Ability to analyze labour laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance and make informed decisions.
• Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and handle unexpected challenges.
• Cultural & Equity Awareness: Understanding and valuing cultural differences while effectively engaging with individuals from various backgrounds. Acknowledging and tackling systemic inequalities to ensure fair treatment, access, and opportunities for everyone, along with recognizing and minimizing unconscious biases in decision-making processes.
