Job Responsibility:

RPN for the position of Director of Care :

The Director of Care is responsible for leading and supervising a nursing team. This position is ultimately responsible, and accountable, for the nursing care/services provided to the residents. They will report to the General Manager. Job Duties include but are not limited to:

Performing all duties in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario

• Assisting with regular assessments of residents' needs through the development, evaluation, and updating of resident care plans,
• Taking responsibility for the safe and accurate administration of medications and treatments provided to residents,
• Assessing individual resident's needs for recreational and rehabilitation programs, and encouraging suitable participation
• Maintaining complete and accurate patient documentation where applicable
• Assists in the oversight of the building, after hours and on weekends.
• Observing and reporting significant changes in the resident's physical, cognitive, emotional and social conditions in a manner that demonstrates respect and maintains privacy and confidentiality for each resident.
• Assisting in training and supporting new staff through and beyond the orientation period
• Overseeing hiring, scheduling staff and securing replacement for absences;
• Contacting family emergency contacts as required,
• Assisting in filling out Incident Reports for residents and staff,
• Liaison with Resident's physician, families and outside agencies as required,
• Ensuring the nursing unit is compliant with all regulations,
• Providing ongoing education to staff to meet legislative requirements and learning needs,
• Completing nursing documentation
• Performing other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Practical Nurse with a current certificate of competence and a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

• Experience with the care of the elderly
• Empathy for and understanding of the elderly
• A high degree of tolerance and patience
• Good communication skills, both oral and written (French & English)
• Supervisory capability and experience
• Valid CPR certificate
