Job Summary:The Senior Airport Electrical Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the planning, design, delivery, and quality oversight of electrical engineering projects within airport environments. This role provides advanced technical expertise across airport electrical infrastructure, including airfield lighting systems, electrical distribution systems, facility electrical systems, standby power, and airport support facilities.
Working closely with clients, project managers, contractors, airport operators, and multidisciplinary design teams, this position supports the successful delivery of complex airport infrastructure projects from concept through construction and commissioning. The role also contributes significantly to business development, proposal preparation, client relationship management, mentoring junior staff, and advancing Avia NG's technical excellence in airport engineering.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & DesignLead the design and delivery of airport electrical infrastructure projects.
Provide senior engineering expertise for:
Airport electrical distribution systemsMedium and low-voltage power distributionAirport buildings and terminal facilitiesNavigational aid power systemsStandby and emergency power systemsSite electrical installations and controlsPrepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, technical reports, and construction documentation.Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and airport operational requirements.Review engineering deliverables for quality, constructability, safety, and operational effectiveness.Participate in site investigations, field reviews, commissioning activities, and condition assessments.
Project DeliveryManage multiple projects while maintaining budget, schedule, and quality objectives.Support project planning and risk management.Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, and architectural disciplines.Provide technical guidance during construction and contract administration phases.Review contractor submissions, RFIs, change requests, and shop drawings.Assist project managers in identifying and mitigating project risks.
Business Development & Proposal SupportLead and support proposal development efforts for airport infrastructure projects.Prepare technical approaches, work plans, scopes, schedules, and fee estimates.Participate in client meetings, business development activities, conferences, and industry events.Build and maintain strong relationships with airport authorities, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.Identify opportunities for new work and support strategic growth initiatives.Provide technical mentorship to engineers, EITs, technologists, and designers.Review and guide engineering work completed by junior staff.Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and professional development activities.Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives within the electrical practice.
QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada, or eligibility for registration.
ExperienceMinimum 10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience.Demonstrated experience in airport, aviation, transportation, municipal, or large infrastructure projects.
