The CCMA team draws on EDC's deep expertise in project finance and investment transactions. EDC's Mining and Metals team has supported the sector for more than 30 years, executing over 50 mining transactions representing more than US$7.5 billion in financing globally. In addition, EDC’s Investment team manages $3.5 billion in committed and invested capital across private equity, venture capital, and fund investments, directly supporting more than 200 Canadian exporters and investing in over 100 Canadian private equity and venture capital funds.

Compensation Details:

• Associate (Underwriter 17): Offered salaries are based on qualifications and experience, and typically range from $84,698 - $112,931, plus a performance-based incentive
• Senior Associate (Underwriter 18): Offered salaries are based on qualifications and experience, and typically range from $96,557 - $128,742 , plus a performance-based incentive

Location:  

• Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of three days in-office days per week (subject to change).
• This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from our Community Hubs in Toronto or Montreal.

Team Overview:

As a member of the CCMA team, you will have the opportunity to work on some of Canada's most significant critical minerals transactions, helping mobilize capital, advance projects of national importance, and strengthen Canada's position as a reliable supplier of critical minerals to domestic and allied markets. The team invests across the critical minerals value chain, supporting opportunities in mining, processing, refining, recycling, and enabling infrastructure.

Working at the intersection of investment, project finance, capital markets, and public policy, you will contribute to the evaluation, structuring, and execution of innovative financing solutions that advance Canada's critical minerals sector.

EDC is seeking a motivated Associate or Senior Associate to join the CCMA team.

In this role, you will support the execution of complex transactions alongside experienced investment professionals, project sponsors, investors, financial institutions, government partners, and industry leaders. You will contribute to financial analysis, due diligence, transaction structuring, market research, and investment recommendations that help advance strategically important projects.

You will play an active role throughout the transaction lifecycle, including evaluating opportunities, developing financial models, preparing investment materials, coordinating stakeholders, and supporting deal execution. This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to high-impact transactions that help shape the future of Canada's critical minerals sector.

What you will be doing:  

Investment Analysis & Due Diligence

• Evaluate investment opportunities across the mining, metals, critical minerals, and related infrastructure sectors.
• Build detailed financial models, develop valuation or credit analyses, and assess investment returns or debt capacity under various scenarios.
• Conduct industry, market, and company research, including analyses of comparable companies and precedent transactions, to inform investment and financing decisions.
• Lead or contribute to due diligence activities, coordinating and reviewing work performed by external advisors across technical, commercial, environmental, social, legal, tax, and other workstreams.
• Develop perspectives on key risks, value drivers, expected returns, and debt capacity.

Transaction Execution

• Support the end-to-end execution of transactions, from initial screening through closing.
• Participate in transaction appraisal and prepare investment and credit memoranda, approval materials, and presentations for decision-making committees.
• Assist in structuring transactions, negotiating commercial terms, and coordinating execution activities with counterparties, advisors, and internal stakeholders.

Portfolio Management & Asset Monitoring

• Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to ongoing asset management activities.
• Analyze portfolio performance, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and contribute to value creation and risk management initiatives.
• Assist with portfolio reporting and investment reviews.

Market Intelligence & Relationship Development

• Develop and maintain knowledge of the mining, metals, and critical minerals sectors, including key market, policy, and industry developments.
• Monitor industry trends, investment activity, and emerging opportunities, and share relevant insights with the broader team.
• Build relationships with investors, industry participants, advisors, and other stakeholders through market engagement and industry events.
• Contribute to transaction origination and business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and cultivating industry relationships.

What we are looking for:  

Education & Experience

• Undergraduate degree in finance, business, economics, engineering, geology, or another relevant discipline.
• 2-5 years or more of relevant experience in investment banking, project finance, corporate banking, private equity, infrastructure investing, corporate development, consulting, or a related field.
• Experience evaluating, structuring, or executing financing and investment transactions.

Technical & Sector Expertise

• Strong financial analysis, valuation, and modelling skills, including the ability to build and analyze detailed cash flow models and investment returns.
• Solid understanding of financial statements, capital markets, credit analysis, and investment fundamentals.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

What will make you stand out:  

• A master's degree (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) or a professional designation such as CFA, CBV, or CPA.
• Experience in mining, metals, critical minerals, and/or related infrastructure sectors.
• Proficiency in French and/or other languages relevant to Canada's key international trading markets.
