Position Summary

The Access Control Officer (ACO) is responsible for conducting regulated access control into the restricted areas and critical areas inside and outside of the Air Terminal Building. Access Control Officers are required to be cross-trained and rotate through all ten ACO posts.

Compensation: $22.50 per hour  

Major R esponsibilities

• Access Enforcement: Monitor and enforce entry restrictions at security checkpoints to ensure only authorized personnel enter restricted areas, inspect vehicles entering restricted areas, and check for unauthorized occupants.


• Surveillance & Monitoring: Provide 24/7 monitoring of terminal areas and the airport perimeter; identify and/or promptly report or rectify safety concerns and/or suspicious behaviors.


• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all airport tenants, staff, and guests adhere to security regulations established by Transport Canada.


• Facility Patrols: Perform regular foot patrols of airport facilities and grounds to uphold security and safety measures.


• Emergency Response: respond as directed by the Security Operations Centre (SOC) and manage incidents until relieved by first responders.


• Credential Verification: verify identities for Restricted Area Identity Cards (RAIC) and Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permits (AVOP) credentials and other temporary visitor passes.


• Conduct routine safety checks throughout the property.


• Operating and monitoring advanced security technology and detection systems.


• Providing customer service, including guidance, direction, and reassurance to individuals screened via security processes.


• Maintaining detailed notes of security breaches and incidents, providing support to investigators as required.

Posts staffed by Access Control Officers :  

• Staff Entrance – Access control into the domestic & international hold room.  

• NPS Baggage – Access control into the domestic & international make-up area and to the commercial apron  

• Terminal Support – provides resiliency to other ACO posts.  

• International Flight Officer – Guards the Primary Security Line during the arrival of passengers from international flights.  

• One-Stop Security – Guards the Primary Security Line during the arrival of one-stop security flights in the International Connecting Facility.  

• Dock Master - Checks deliveries received at the loading dock and does foot patrols of designated stock storage areas and the south service parking lot.  

• S. Quick Connect – ensures passengers exiting this area to enter the U.S. Preclearance area have had their checked luggage presented to U.S. Customs using the provided database.  

• North Gate – Adjacent to the Air Terminal Building, the gate is a vehicular access point into the restricted area. ACOs validate RAICs, passes, and other documents  of entitlement and AVOP credentials. They inspect vehicles to ensure no unauthorized people enter the restricted area.  

• South Gate – Adjacent to the Air Terminal Building, the gate is a vehicular access point into the restricted area. ACOs validate RAICs, passes, and other documents  of entitlement and AVOP credentials. They inspect vehicles to ensure no unauthorized people enter the restricted area.  

• NPSV-South – Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) screening location, which provides access into the commercial apron and requires  additional access checks to be conducted by ACOs. ACOs validate RAICs, passes, and other documents  of entitlement and AVOP credentials. They inspect vehicles to ensure no unauthorized people enter the restricted area.  

Education and Knowledge

High School diploma/GED

Professional/Technical Knowledge:
