Lead Java Developer - Market Rates

Job DescriptionOverview Insight Global is seeking a lead Java developer in Toronto for a Canadian Tier 1 Bank, working on its Rates Derivative Pricing System. You will be the primary point of contact for traders, Quants, and support partners across North America and APAC, and will lead development projects that expand the system's capabilities to support the Capital Markets Macro trading business.This is a hands-on technical leadership role — you’ll be writing production code daily while setting the technical direction for the work. It is not a people-management position;
there are no direct reports. Leadership here means owning architecture and technical decisions, not line management.This is also a front-office-facing role at the intersection of finance and technology — you’ll need the technical depth to build low-latency systems and the capital markets fluency to work directly with the trading desk.Responsibilities
Remain hands-on, contributing production code while leading the technical direction of the workPartner with stakeholders to gather and define requirementsDesign and implement solutions optimised for performance, supportability, reusability, and reliabilityContribute across the full software development lifecycleDeliver to deadlines within a fast-moving release cycleResolve production issues and recommend system improvementsAdvise traders, Quants, support partners, and fellow team membersSkills and Requirements
Must-have
7+ years of hands-on server-side Java development, with strong emphasis on concurrency, messaging, and event processing1+ years setting technical direction in a lead or senior engineering capacity (hands-on technical leadership, not people management)Working knowledge of capital markets and the trade lifecycle, sufficient to communicate effectively with traders and QuantsCurve building and interest rate swap pricing knowledge, with hands-on experience in at least one of the following:Rates curve building and pricing, or Rates eTradingFX forward curve building and pricing, or FX eTradingCredit curve building and pricing, or Credit eTradingDesign and implementation of low-latency trading applications using real-time messaging technologies (Solace, TREP)Strong SQL and command of software design and architecture patternsAbility to break down complex business-domain requirements into technical solutionsExperience providing L2 production support as part of a teamExcellent verbal and written communication;
a detail-oriented team player focused on qualityNote: candidates with high C++ proficiency in lieu of Java will be considered, provided the domain experience is strong.Nice-to-have
