The City of Iqaluit is looking for a City Planner to join our team!
Title: City PlannerDepartment: Planning and Development
Status: Full-time permanent
Rate of Pay: $51.71/per hour, 35 hrs/wk
Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum
Union Status: Unionized
Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, The City Planner is responsible for municipal planning activities. In this role, the City Planner will implement the General Plan, Zoning By-law and other policies, and will contribute to and oversee both long-term strategic planning and urban development.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Minimum Level of Education/Training:- University Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field
- APPI/CIP Membership preferred Candidate members will be considered
- 3 years of experience in Municipal or Development Planning Experience in adjacent planning specializations will be considered
Technical & Contextual Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Computer software including GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work with territorial legislation, including Nunavut’s land ownership system, Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, and other relevant Northern issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate and write in plain language
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Inuktitut
Assets:
- Experience with living and working in Inuit Nunangat
- On-the-land experience/knowledge within Inuit Nunangat
- Proficient in spatial analysis
- Proficient in demography, statistics and current planning methods
