Your impact

Jacobs is currently looking to hire an Indigenous Engagement Specialist to join our dynamic team. Our Jacobs Indigenous Relations team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business, and we are expanding our team to support our Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation programs. In this position, you will be part of the environmental planning and permitting teams. Your role involves supporting cultural components of the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure projects in Canada, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting environmental due diligence, and strategic planning. You will also support our various field programs by performing a variety of tasks including resolving issues and communicating with field staff.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Support environmental planning and permitting throughout the lifecycle of a project, working with a multidisciplinary team.

• Stay current with relevant regulations and ensure project activities align with cultural standards.
• Conduct thorough assessments to identify potential cultural impacts and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
• Support the preparation of permit inputs, regulatory filings, and environmental management plans.
• Coordinate and provide technical writing support for projects.
• Coordinate cultural environmental field studies.
• Support engagement efforts with Indigenous communities and regulatory agencies.
• Be a Safety Leader for the project and promote Jacobs Beyond Zero and our culture of caring.

Here's what you'll need

• A degree in Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Environmental Planning, History, or a related field. 
• 2 to 5 years of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Government Relations, Environment, Anthropology or Archaeology experience highly desired.
• Familiarity or willingness to learn provincial and federal environmental permitting, legislation, and regulatory requirements, primarily in western Canada.
• Experience or knowledge of Indigenous cultural values. 
• Demonstrated technical writing skills and high attention to detail to provide high-quality deliverables. 
• Time management skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks and projects to meet project deadlines. 
• Great communication skills, both written and verbal, and willingness to be client-facing in order to grow our planning and permitting services.  
• High level of initiative, problem-solving, and adaptability.  
• Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.  
• Strong understanding and consideration for safety.  
• Willingness to work flexible hours.

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

• Experience seeing major projects from planning through construction.
• Experience engaging with Indigenous groups and collaborating with representatives and community members.
• Proven ability to collaborate with Indigenous groups to identify opportunities for Indigenous partnerships.
• Financial literacy and understanding of managing budgets and schedules.
• The ability to inspire, mentor, motivate, and build respect among colleagues, fostering a cohesive work environment.

Posted Salary Range: Upper

96,800.00

The base salary range for this position is $66,300.00 to $96,800.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across Ontario, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
