Program Coordinator (Summer)

Job Responsibility:

Job Summary The Town of Carleton Place Public Library is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Summer Program Coordinator. This position involves the planning and implementation of exciting and educational programs for children aged 2-12, as part of the Summer Reading Program. The role is essential for enhancing childhood learning experiences within the community throughout the summer months.

Duties

• Plan and organize daily activities for children aged 2-12, ensuring an engaging and thematic approach.
• Develop creative artwork and displays to enhance program visibility.
• Promote the Summer Reading Program through various community events.
• Capture and analyze participation statistics, creating a comprehensive evaluation report at summer's end.
• Support library operations, assisting at the circulation desk and reshelving materials as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Coursework in education, literacy, or child development is considered an asset.
• Up to 1 year of experience working with children aged 2-12; experience in public libraries is an asset.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong communication skills to engage with children, parents, and library staff.
• Creativity in designing lesson plans, activities, and program materials.
• Flexibility to adapt lessons based on each child's learning style and progress.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing.
• Demonstrated reliability and punctuality with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required for candidates 18 years of age or older prior to employment. For candidates under 18, alternative assessments such as character references may be used.

Working Conditions

• Temporary Full-Time position for June, July and August.
• Schedule may include evenings and Saturdays, with occasional adjustments to accommodate events.
• Work may take place indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.
• The role involves physical tasks, including lifting books/supplies and supervising active children.
• The environment may be busy and noisy, requiring strong focus and adaptability.
