Senior WordPress Developer

The Role

As a Senior Wordpress Developer, you are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of Wordpress architecture and a proven track record in developing custom Wordpress themes and plugins. Writing clean, efficient and reusable code, along with a commitment to industry standards and best practices, is essential for this role. Beyond development, you will provide valuable insights into web technologies, frameworks, user experience and current trends. While the primary focus is on WordPress development, familiarity with other web technologies and CMS platforms is important for handling inherited sites and site migrations. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a passion for staying current with evolving web standards.

Technology & Skills Required

• Extensive experience with WordPress development architecture (core functionalities and Rest API, as well as custom theme, plugin and block development).
• Strong understanding of PHP and SQL.
• Proficiency in Javascript (without a dependency on libraries like jQuery or Alpine).
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices (WCAG >2.0).
• Excellent and responsive front-end development skills.
• Experience with Bootstrap or similar responsive design frameworks like Tailwind or Foundation.
• Proficient in cross-browser and multi-device compatibility with graceful degradation techniques.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in using Git for version control.
• Familiarity with web security best practices and common vulnerabilities (e.g., XSS, CSRF).
• Understanding of website performance optimization techniques and tools.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with other CMS platforms and frameworks (e.g., Drupal, Joomla, Laravel).
• Knowledge of caching mechanisms and CDN integration.
• Javascript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js) - specifically React Custom Blocks within Wordpress.
• Experience with deployment processes and tools (e.g., SSH, SFTP, CI/CD pipelines).

Experience & Compensation

Candidates must have at least 7 years of web development experience, including at least 5 years of professional custom WordPress development. Additionally, a portfolio showcasing recent work is required with the application.

This position is open to Canadian residents only.
