Overview

We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team based at our growing Iqaluit office. This role is open to applicants residing anywhere in Nunavut with preference for candidates based in or willing to relocate to Iqaluit. Regular travel across Nunavut and the broader North is required.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Civil Engineer in this seller-doer role you will win and deliver municipal and community infrastructure projects balancing technical execution with active client this client-facing role you will connect local needs with Dillons broader technical capabilities leading projects from initial planning and design through construction and follow-through.

Project Delivery & Coordination

  • Lead civil design and multidisciplinary coordination for Northern municipal infrastructure including water/wastewater roads drainage site servicing subdivision development and community renewals.
  • Act as Project Manager or technical lead ensuring projects are culturally respectful technically sound and compliant with permafrost and local standards.
  • Conduct field reviews site visits and construction support in Iqaluit and remote Nunavut communities.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and connect clients with the right expertise across Dillon.

Client Development & Local Presence

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with Government of Nunavut departments hamlets and municipalities Inuit organizations federal agencies and community and industry partners.
  • Serve as a visible Dillon representative in Nunavut supporting early-stage pursuits proposals and community engagement; use local presence to strengthen project follow-through.
  • Identify strategic growth opportunities to expand Dillons regional impact and client confidence.
  • Participate in early-stage client conversations and help shape opportunities before formal RFPs are issued.

Practice Growth & Team Building

  • Help establish and grow the Iqaluit office as a local hub for project delivery client engagement partner collaboration and recruitment.
  • Partner with the Yellowknife and national teams to streamline Northern project delivery and build local capacity.

Learning & Development

  • A commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Input to the career development of junior staff including technical direction training recommendations coaching and mentoring
  • Contribute to Dillons corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered with NAPEG (Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists) or eligible for registration and able to obtain it within six months of joining.
  • Living in or having deep experience working in Nunavut enrollment as an Inuk under the Nunavut Agreement knowledge of Inuit culture and governance Inuktut language skills and/or Inuit representation are all considered significant assets.
  • Nunavut recognizes Inuktut English and French as its official languages and fluency in more than one is considered an asset. However resumes should be submitted in English to support the recruitment process. Additionally preference will be given to candidates who bring northern cross-cultural work experience and an understanding of Inuit communities land culture Inuktut and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.

Experience

  • 5 years in consulting municipal/community infrastructure or related project delivery (less experience considered with relevant northern/Nunavut experience).
  • Experience delivering or coordinating civil and municipal infrastructure projects
  • Ability to work across disciplines coordinate technical teams and communicate effectively with clients and community stakeholders.
  • Interest in business development client relationship-building and proposal support.
  • Experience with territorial municipal Inuit organization housing or utility clients.
  • Knowledge of northern construction logistics fieldwork contract administration or community engagement.
  • Exposure to environmental approvals permitting or multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
