Senior Human Resources Advisor

Role:  The Sr. HR Advisor plays a key role in attracting qualified candidates and rigorously screen for the best candidate for the current position and future opportunities. Ability to apply HR tools such as behavioral based interviewing and scoring systems to make objective recommendations.

Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Staffing - Selection and Recruitment

• Perform all activities related to the selection and the recruitment of drivers and staff; including behavioral based interviews, verification of references and tests;
• Make arrangements with the recruiter and the Driver Trainer for road tests activities;
• Ensure that all applications on the Internet, in person and phone inquiries are processed in a timely matter;
• Work closely with management to ensure their needs are understood and met.
• Ensure compensation guidelines are respected.
• Ensure policies and procedures are up to date and supportive of department’s objectives and legislative obligations.
• Ensure such updates are done in coordination with manager(s) of other sites.
• Participate in the audits and evaluations

2. Human Resources Responsibilities:

• Looking after the hiring process, including submitting job postings online and scheduling candidate interviews
• Implement and administer employee policies
• Provide high-quality advice and service to management on employee relations and performance management issues
• Support the HR department in implementing programs to help improve the employee experience
• Offer proactive recruiting assistance to the team in other locations
• Identify ways to improve policies and procedures
• Prepare disciplinary letters /conduct investigations
• Train and provide support to HR team members
• Contribute to the lunch and learns sessions  
• Perform administrative work, including scheduling, maintaining files for the Human Resources department
• Enter employment data into computer database
• Benchmark the industry  
• Track and update hourly employee leaves of absence
• Coordinate logistics for new hire orientations and employee training sessions

3.  Health and Safety
Oversee and chair the Safety Committee for assigned terminal (s)

• Appoint and direct the safety committee members.
• Ensure inspections and incident reviews focus on claim prevention
• Elevate issues of concern to Sr. HR Director
• Maintain H&S boards in all areas
• Responsible for Labour Canada audits of the Terminal
• Administer all WCB claims

4.  Senior Advisor Support

• Conduct HR-related research and analysis as requested by management on employment legislation, regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and emerging HR trends, providing recommendations to support decision-making.
• Support and coordinate HR audits, government reporting requirements, and compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to applicable employment laws and organizational policies
• Serve as a key point of contact for employee and management HR concerns, providing guidance, resolving issues, or escalating complex matters as appropriate.
• Partner with managers across departments to develop and review HR-related communications and documentation, ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with company policies and legal obligations.
• Coaching managers on employee relations and performance management.
• Supporting workforce planning and talent management initiatives.
• Leading HR projects and process improvements.
• Identify and escalate employee relations, compliance, or organizational risks to management when appropriate.
• Supporting investigations and conflict resolution processes.
• Retention:  Analyze employee turnover data, exit interviews, and retention trends; provide insights and recommendations to improve employee engagement and retention.
• Conduct KPIs and share with management- look for areas of improvement if any
• Develop and coordinate HR communication strategies that promote employee awareness, engagement, and understanding of company policies, programs, and organizational initiatives
• Review, approve, and audit HR department invoices and expenditures in accordance with budget guidelines and company approval processes.
• Ensure workplace communication boards and employee information displays are accurate, compliant, professional, and current

5.  Other responsibilities

• Manage events and job fairs
• Compile statistics in relation to objectives and participate in the analysis of trend in order to make recommendations towards continuous improvement
• Participate / Organize Corporate events (responsible to promote the Company and all its benefits)
• Participate in meetings between HR and Op's with mandate to create a respectful environment that makes us a productive employer of choice
