What Is The Opportunity

As Director, Internal Communications, you will lead our award-winning Internal Communications team and oversee the development and execution of enterprise-wide communication strategies that engage, inform, and inspire employees across Canada, the United States, and international operations.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring employees understand the company's strategy, priorities, and culture. Working closely with senior leaders across Operations, Human Resources, and Corporate Affairs, you will deliver communications that drive alignment, strengthen engagement, support organizational change, and reinforce a connected and high-performing culture.

What You'll Do

• Develop and lead the company's internal communications strategy across Canada, the United States, and international operations.
• Align communication programs with business objectives, strategic priorities, and organizational culture.
• Develop communication plans that support enterprise growth, major business initiatives, operational milestones, and transformation programs.
• Lead enterprise-wide communications, including executive announcements, CEO Town Halls,  business updates, leadership forums, and digital communications programs.  
• Partner with senior leaders to translate business priorities into clear, compelling communication and engagement strategies.
• Develop speeches, presentations, videos, articles, and other executive communication materials.
• Oversee internal communication channels, including the intranet, newsletters, digital signage, videos, podcasts, and employee campaigns.
• Develop communication strategies that support organizational growth, change management, acquisitions, business transformation, and expansion into new markets.
• Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of company-wide events and experiences, including the annual Aecon Spring Conference, employee recognition programs, holiday celebrations, company picnics, and other culture-building initiatives.
• Establish governance, standards, and best practices for internal communications across the organization.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing communications team.
• Manage external agencies, partners, and vendors as required.

What You Bring to The Team

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive communications experience, including leadership roles within large, complex organizations.
• Experience supporting North American organizations, with a strong understanding of the U.S. business environment.
• Experience within the construction, infrastructure, engineering, transportation, utilities, energy, industrial, or related sectors is preferred.
• Experience communicating with a geographically dispersed workforce, including both corporate and project-based employees, is considered a strong asset.
• Demonstrated success developing and executing enterprise-wide internal communications and employee engagement programs.
• Experience building, scaling, and evolving internal communications functions in complex organizations.
• Experience supporting organizational growth, transformation, acquisitions, and cross-border operations.
• Exceptional writing, storytelling, presentation, and executive communications skills.
• Experience managing digital communication channels, measurement tools, and employee engagement platforms.
• Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $135,000 - $145,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
