Status: Full-Time Term (end date: October 8th, 2027 )

Salary : C/TFN Wage Scale Level 7 ($44.08-$55.78p/hr)

Your Role

Reporting to the K4-12 Student Education & Supports Manager, the Education Support Worker supports the educational success and well-being of C/TFN children and youth from early childhood through secondary school. The position plays a key role in strengthening transitions between education stages while promoting academic achievement, cultural identity, and student wellness.

Working closely with students, families, educators, and community partners, the Education Support Worker provides guidance, advocacy, and culturally grounded support. By integrating C/TFN values, traditional knowledge, and community-based resources, the role helps foster a supportive learning environment that reflects C/TFN priorities and supports the holistic development of students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support, Advocacy, and Educational Transitions

  • Provide guidance and advocacy to students and families, particularly during key academic transitions, including course selection, and graduation planning.
  • Support students’ academic, emotional, physical, and spiritual development in collaboration with families and school staff.
  • Promote regular school attendance, positive engagement, and participation in educational, cultural, and career development opportunities.

School and Community Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, school staff, and C/TFN departments to support effective communication and coordinated services.
  • Attend school staff meetings, education-related events, and case discussions to support student success and cultural awareness.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, families, educators, and the public regarding education programs and supports.

Cultural Programming and Orientation Support

  • Organize and participate in teacher orientation sessions to share C/TFN cultural values, traditions, and educational priorities
  • Facilitate cultural learning opportunities by coordinating presenters, workshops, and activities for students, families, and educators
  • Support the integration of traditional knowledge and community perspectives within the school and education programming

Teamwork and Organizational Support

  • Collaborate with the education support worker in Whitehorse, the land and language coordinator, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Youth Workers, and other partners
  • Promote and advance C/TFN education priorities by supporting government- and community-led initiatives
  • Participate in policy development, data collection, committee work, and professional development as directed by the K4-12 Student Education & Supports Manager.

Essential Qualifications

  • Post-secondary in Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred; candidates working toward relevant credentials will be considered
  • Valid first aid certificate required
  • Experience working with children or youth in educational or community-based settings

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability

  • Strong knowledge of C/TFN culture, traditions, policies, and guiding values and virtues
  • Understanding of educational systems, programs, and supports for K4-12 students
  • Ability to build respectful, trusting relationships with students, parents, educators, and community members
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and inclusive environments
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to plan and support workshops, orientation sessions, and group activities
  • Skills in basic research, data collection, and report writing
  • Working knowledge of general office procedures and basic financial tracking
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and educational technology to support learning and engagement
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
