After School Program Manager

Job Responsibility:

The After-School Program (ASP) Manager leads the ASP team and will develop, implement, oversee, and evaluate educational, recreational, social, and leadership programs for newcomer children in a school setting. Operating during the critical after-school hours, the program goal is to nurture a sense of belonging, instill confidence and foster leadership skills among children, assisting them in reaching their full potential. This vision is realized through a diverse range of educational, creative, and recreational activities, in a safe and empowering environment enriched by positive mentorship.

ASP MANAGER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Supervise ASP staff and volunteers

· Develop, implement, and oversee a high-quality afterschool program for children ages 6-12 that responds to the dynamic needs of the newcomer community and adheres to program objectives

· Create weekly and monthly program plans in collaboration with ASP team including purchasing, organizing and storing program supplies

· Develop and implement program strategies to encourage and inspire confidence, leadership skills and self-regulation among participants

· Monitor program growth and development, ensuring programs are relevant, well-run and coordinated

· Monitor program budget in consultation with the Director of Programming in

· Ensure weekly engagement with newcomer families through phone calls, emails, etc

· Ensure ASP staff compliance with FLH policies and procedures

· Build and maintain a strong relationship with school administration and staff

· Gather and prepare program information for reports as requested by Program Director

· Other tasks as assigned by Program Director

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· 3 years' experience working with children or youth preferred

· 2 years of relevant university or child and youth care worker training preferred

· Proven ability to lead, manage and empower a team with diverse abilities and perspectives

· Understanding of cross-cultural issues, the immigration process, the refugee experience, and of the systemic and social barriers to community integration faced by newcomer children

· Strong written and oral English communication skills

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications

· Access to personal vehicle to transport program supplies, snacks

· Ability to present a current Criminal Record Check and maintain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check

·Second language an asset

·First aid, Foodsafe or willingness to become certified

HOURS OF WORK: This part-time position requires 20 hours per week and follows a hybrid model. Onsite work is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, while the remaining hours are flexible and can be completed remotely for program planning, shopping for program supplies and team meetings.
