Introduction

As a member of the Innovation Division’s management team, the Executive Director leads and manages the Policy and Legislation Branch, provides strategic advice and support to the Assistant Deputy Minister, and contributes to cross-department initiatives that advance government priorities.

Duties:

Provides strategic leadership for policy, legislative, regulatory, and operational initiatives that support innovation and economic growth. The role advises senior government officials, oversees planning, resource management, and organizational performance, and fosters a respectful, high-performing workplace culture. It also builds and maintains collaborative partnerships across government, industry, academia, and community organizations to advance departmental and government priorities.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Proven leadership ability, including a commitment to creating, supporting, and sustaining a diverse environment where staff can achieve results and build organizational capacity for the future.
• Management experience with responsibility for human and financial resources, including experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans and delivering results.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience managing complex, high-level internal and external stakeholder relationships and building teams, partnerships, and alliances.
• Excellent political acumen, demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
• Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity, identify opportunities for innovation, develop creative solutions, assess competing policy considerations and manage change successfully.
• Demonstrated resilience and ability to respond to challenges and change in a professional, inclusive, and constructive manner.
• Knowledge of budget processes and financial administration policies.
• Experience leading the design and implementation of legislation, policies, or programs.
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
