Principal Systems Engineer

About the role

Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) is the lead integrator of specialized combat systems (SCS) for large‑scale, advanced integration projects in Canada. We design, develop, and integrate combat systems for warships. We are seeking motivated, high‑performing individuals to join our naval programs team.

Team Overview

The naval programs team is responsible for technical planning, design, construction, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and sustainment and effectiveness analysis of overall systems. Throughout the product lifecycle activities include design, manufacturing, testing, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. The team converts customer or product requirements into integrated system solutions while accounting for technical, financial and schedule constraints.

Role Summary

As a systems engineer and a member of the naval development team you’ll participate in the full engineering lifecycle: requirements definition, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance and field troubleshooting for large, complex naval platform systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on system design activities with the lead systems engineer and other engineering staff, including supporting technical reviews
• Perform requirements analyses
• Conduct market studies
• Review requirements, their allocation and market study results
• Perform systems modeling and design, including model‑based systems engineering
• Define technical performance measures and monitor them
• Work on system architecture and design
• Plan system integration
• Produce design documentation
• Apply systems design engineering processes and best practices

What you bring to the role (requirements)

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a related discipline or equivalent co‑op/apprenticeship training with at least five years of professional experience, OR at least three years of professional experience with a related master’s degree.

Additional desired skills

• At least five years of relevant professional experience (equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered)
• Experience with software, systems, hardware lifecycle or sustainment engineering
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical staff in engineering and management, as well as with related stakeholders
• Ability to solve complex problems in a team environment
• High degree of initiative and autonomy
• Strong learning capability
• Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment
• Good knowledge of SysML or other object‑oriented design methods
• Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, DOORS, Cameo, ClearCase, ClearQuest or Windchill
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• Experience in the military naval domain
• Experience in change management, requirements management, test and trials, safety, security, electromagnetic interference/compatibility, or environmental qualification

• Salary range: $95,000 – $124,500
