Planning Co-op Student will have the opportunity to learn about modeling of power system, application of AI and using power system analytical tools such as PSS/E along with internal tools within Hydro One.

Your job duties may include:

• Assist system planners in executing the Regional Infrastructure Planning process 
• Work with planners in preparing various departmental reports, spreadsheets, and presentations 
• Assist in developing alternatives based on load forecast and analyzing asset investments related to transmission system planning 
• Assist system planners in conducting Customer Impact Assessment 
• Learn, research standards and other matters related to System Planning and leverage AI
• Learn and Perform power flow studies and contingency analysis using PSS/E 
• Research, review, and provide inputs to industry policies and standards, such as NERC, NPCC, ORTAC, CSA, IEEE, IEC, and OEB–TSC/DSC in the context of transmission system planning and electricity industry 
• Work with other line of business units to develop regional historical load database, including data gathering and processing 
• Create report templates and conduct data analysis using VBA and Excel macros 
• Assist with enhancement and maintenance of SharePoint, incorporating AI, and supporting the Region Planning website 
• Perform other duties as required 

This job will provide you with the following professional development:

• An in depth understanding of operational, regulatory and financial framework behind utilities in Ontario and North America 
• Understand concepts related to transmission system by working with planners, attending meetings, and participating in webinars related to regional planning 
• Understand the power system of Ontario and its interconnections to the neighboring systems 
• Exposure to investment planning processes and optimization strategies 
• Enhance communication skills by working with multiple departments and market participants 
• Explore academic field of interest by taking on different tasks 

Job Requirements:

• Discipline: Electrical Engineering or Computer Science student is preferred. Candidates studying Mechanical Engineering with strong AI-related skills and experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Academic Level: 2nd year and higher 
• Understanding of basic electricity principles and power systems 
• Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, and PowerPoint 
• Excellent communication, writing, research, and presentation skills 
• Understanding of System Planning or Regional Planning process is an asset
