CGI is Canada’s largest independent information technology services firm, and after 50 years, we’re still growing. We are building a new AI engineering capability inside our Toronto Financial Services (TFS) business unit, serving clients in Banking, Insurance, and Wealth Management.
We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Engineering Co-Op). This is a hands-on, full-stack role. You will work close to the business, build real software, and use AI coding tools every day to move fast. You will help turn ideas into working products — front end, back end, and data — and deploy them where they are needed.
This role is a great fit for someone who loves to build, learns quickly, and is excited about the new craft of working with AI: prompt engineering, context engineering, harness engineering, and loop engineering.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $18-32/hour. This role is an existing vacancy.

Your future duties and responsibilities
• Build full-stack software end to end — front end, back-end APIs, and databases.
• Work directly with the team and business users to understand the problem and ship a working solution.
• Use AI coding tools (such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or Claude Code) to design, write, and test code quickly.
• Design good prompts and context so AI tools give strong, reliable results.
• Build and improve the harness and loops that let AI tools run, check their own work, and repeat until the task is done.
• Create and connect REST APIs and services.
• Design and query databases in PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Test your work, fix bugs, and keep quality high.
• Share what you learn with the team and help improve how we build with AI.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• Full-stack development: hands-on experience with Java and Node.js.
• Front end: able to build clean, working user interfaces.
• Back end: able to build and connect REST APIs and services.
• Databases: working knowledge of PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• AI-assisted development: has built full-stack software using AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or Claude Code.
• Good knowledge of prompt engineering, context engineering, harness engineering, and loop engineering.
• Continuous learner: excited to learn new tools and ideas, and quick to pick them up.
• Communication: clear written and spoken English; able to explain technical work in simple terms.
• Education: enrolled in or completing a program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (co-op / work-term eligible).

Assets / Nice-to-Haves
• Knowledge or Experience deploying apps to the cloud (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containers (Docker).
• Experience building or calling LLM / AI APIs.
• Interest in Banking, Insurance, or Wealth Management.
• Personal or open-source projects that show you like to build.
