Grants Specialist (Temp 4-6 month engagement)

Learn. Develop. Succeed. is a growing, innovative, research-based, educational nonprofit charity serving children, youth, and adults with diagnosed or suspected learning differences such as dyslexia and dyscalculia, as well as other brain-based differences like ADHD and ASD.

Purpose of Position 

The Grants Specialist progresses LDS’ mission by assisting with and executing advancement and grant writing initiatives. The position works closely with our Executive Director and others to achieve fundraising goals through grant writing and expanding supporter relationships.   

Principal Roles and Responsibilities  

Working closely with the Executive Director, and with several communications, finance, and education team members, you offer specialized support to our full cycle grants management and stewardship, and donor engagement activities in the following key areas:    

Grant Specialization   

• Research and identify grant opportunities, draft grant proposals, and lead all aspects of the grant application, stewardship, follow up, deliverables monitoring, and reporting processes, including budgets and financial reporting.   
  


• Coordinate timelines, deadlines and processes for applications and reports and effectively collaborate with communications, finance, and leadership on various needs.   
  


• Conduct research on foundations, government programs, and potential funding partners. 
  


• Draft internal fundraising reports using quantitative and qualitative metrics.   
  


• Coordinate, implement and manage data related to fundraising campaigns, events, and donor drives.   
  


• Support CRM management and updating. 
  


• Utilize data and metrics to evaluate and enhance the success of fundraising strategies.   

Supporter Stewardship   

• Listen and engage with supporters to nurture a community of shared purpose. 
  


• Draft and distribute quarterly impact reports and other messaging for supporters.    
  


• Using our existing network, as well as newly researched contacts, maximize our tailored outreach to supporters and grow our community of supporters.   
  


• Continue to use and develop our system to ensure timely and personalized recognition of and gratitude to all supporters.   
  


• Attend social and networking events with leadership team members.   
  


• Conduct research to identify new prospective supporters that align with LDS’ mission.    
  


• Potential involvement in events and outreach initiatives, virtual and in person.
  


• Where possible, coordinate supporter relations, supporter identification, and cultivation including identifying new prospects, attending meetings, and following up with proposals.

Qualifications and Experience 

• University degree in a relevant field (e.g., public relations, communications, business, marketing) or equivalent experience  
  


• 2+ years related experience in fundraising, or a related role within the charitable sector  
  


• Proven experience and success with grant writing and reporting 
  


• Experience managing fundraising campaigns, supporter communications, and events 
  


• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines 
  


• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail 
  


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team 
  


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency in Canva an asset. 
  


• Knowledge of supporter databases (e.g., Keela or similar) 
  


• Eligibility to work in Canada  
  


• Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening  
  


• CRFE certification (or on certification track), AFP membership is considered an asset but not required 

Start date:  As soon as possible in July 2026

Reports to : Executive Director 

Hours of work : 40 working hours per week, Monday to Friday 

Approximate schedule could be anywhere from 8:30 a.m./10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./6:30 p.m. Pacific Time 
Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings or weekends 

Remuneration and Benefits 

• $57,000 to $61,000 per year pro-rated to months worked, based on experience and a forty (40) hour work week. The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum starting salary. The top of the pay range is for a successful candidate who is an advancement and grant writing expert with a combination of experience and competencies to perform these job duties at an expert level.
