Position Summary
The Arts Engagement Coordinator plans, coordinates, and delivers programs that connect artists and community with KIAC. The Coordinator takes ownership of assigned activities from start to finish. A key part of the role is identifying what each activity needs and connecting with the people who can deliver it. This includes delegating tasks to Arts Assistants, volunteers, and contractors, bringing in staff from other departments, tracking program activities and expenses, and reporting on results.

About the Arts Engagement Coordinator position
- We’re looking for someone who is keen to work 20 or more hours per week , who is able to start November 15th, or shortly after.
- This is a permanent, part-time (0.6 FTE) position that works four days a week.
- The salary for this position is $27.50 to $31.31, depending on experience.
- Three weeks paid vacation and $300 travel stipend annually .

KIAC is a vibrant artistic and cultural centre at the edge of the Arctic that cultivates creativity through film, music, visual, literary, and performing arts. We host a variety of festivals, events, exhibitions, and arts education programs out of the Dënäkär Zho building on Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Territory in Dawson City, Yukon.

About the Hiring Process
- Candidates will be assessed by a three-person Hiring Committee.
- During the hiring process, a review metric will be created that aligns directly with the duties and responsibilities outlined in the Arts Engagement Coordinator Job Description . This review metric will be used to determine the suitability of all candidates.

Arts Engagement Coordinator Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of Programming & Development, and collaborating with the management team, the Arts Engagement Coordinator plans, coordinates, and delivers events, programs, and activities that connect artists and community with KIAC. The Coordinator takes ownership of assigned activities from start to finish. A key part of the role is identifying what each activity needs and connecting with the people who can deliver it. This includes delegating tasks to assistants, volunteers, contractors, and managers, tracking program activities and expenses, and reporting on results.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination and Delegation: Identifies program needs, creates work plans, and delegates tasks to the right people, following up to make sure work gets done.
- Festival and Event Coordination: Coordinates YRAF and Gallery Hop, including site logistics, documentation, and website updates.
- Economic Opportunities for Artists: Coordinates art markets, the annual Christmas Craft Fair, and other opportunities that help local artists earn income.
- Artist-in-Residence Program Coordination: Coordinates residency selection, artist orientation, activities, transportation, and Macaulay House checks.
- Administration and Reporting: Tracks program expenses, prepares activity reports, and keeps program records organized.
Required Skills and Experience*
- Experience coordinating or leading programs, festivals, or community events
- Ability to create plans for programs and events, follow them through, and adjust as needs change
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including managing logistics, schedules, and competing priorities
- Ability to keep accurate records and follow organizational policies and procedures
- Ability to work collaboratively within an anti-oppressive framework and in a cross-cultural, inclusive environment
- Passion for accessible arts programming that welcomes diverse audiences
- Comfort with Google Workspace, Square, Mailchimp, WordPress, and registration platforms
Preferred Skills and Experience*
- Education or experience in fine arts, communications, marketing, event management, or related fields
- Knowledge of the Dawson City community, including local resources and Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in culture
- Knowledge of DCAS's vision and KIAC's aims and objectives
- A valid driver's licence (preferred)

- paid and/or volunteer work experience,
- community organizing and/or activism, and/or
- domestic labour.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Must be available for evening and weekend work
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Check submitted within three months of the start date
- This is an in-person, office-based role. Candidates must be currently residing in, or able to relocate to, Dawson City, Yukon by start date. KIAC does not provide housing or moving expenses.
Working Conditions
- This position primarily works between 9:00am-5:00pm in person at Dënäkär Zho (KIAC headquarters) in Dawson City, Yukon from Tuesday to Friday.
- Evening and weekend work needed as programming requires
- The role involves occasional local travel, including transporting visiting artists, and requires access to, or the ability to arrange, reliable transportation.
- Setup and teardown involve physical tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs and standing for extended periods.
$22.9 - $26.07 per hour
