Diabetes Nurse Trainee (235617)

Description

In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

This position represents a temporary full time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff to work in the specified Island Health specialty department. As a training opportunity this position will work closely with a Certified Diabetes Nurse Educator mentor for the duration of the training opportunity and with limited scope of practice.

Reports to the Manager Chronic Disease Management and Nutrition Therapy Services. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy competency guidelines policies and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training And Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Current Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification or eligible for CDE certification to be obtained within three years of hire. Recent related experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge in the current theories technologies and practices in the control of diabetes mellitus. Knowledge of Adult Education learning principles.

• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts including co-workers physicians community agency representatives patients residents and families.
