Tangent Design Engineering is looking for a  Senior Accountant to join our growing team in Calgary. This role is well suited to someone who has built a strong accounting foundation, is actively progressing toward their  CPA designation , and is ready to take on broader ownership in a project-based business.

You’ll support core accounting activities including month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, accounts payable and receivable, and financial analysis. You’ll also work closely with leaders and project teams across Tangent to improve financial visibility, strengthen processes, and help the business make better decisions.

What You’ll Do

• Support and increasingly own month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, invoicing, accruals, reconciliations, consolidations and supporting schedules.


• Prepare financial reports and support variance analysis for leadership.


• Complete balance sheet, bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.


• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, and cash flow processes.


• Coordinate and complete budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.


• Support project accounting, including project costing, labour allocation, work in progress, invoicing, margins, inventory counts and project financial performance.


• Work with project managers and operational leaders to improve the accuracy and usefulness of project financial information.


• Prepare monthly financial and operational executive updates to senior management.


• Support payroll-related accounting, benefits reconciliations, and other employee-related financial transactions.


• Prepare year-end working papers and support external accounting, audit, and tax requirements.


• Maintain accurate financial records and appropriate financial controls.


• Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve accounting and finance processes.


• Take on increasing responsibility as your experience and CPA studies progress.

What We’re Looking For

We do not expect you to have completed your CPA designation. This role is intended for someone who is  actively working toward their CPA and looking to build stronger technical, business, and project accounting experience. Ideally, your resume will show:

• Approximately 3 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience.


• A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.


• Current enrolment in, or active progression toward, the  CPA designation .


• Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.


• Experience preparing or supporting financial reporting and variance analysis.


• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and cash flow processes.


• Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems. Experience with Quickbooks and Ruddr is an asset.


• Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or management reporting.


• Experience in a project-based environment such as engineering, consulting, construction, technology, manufacturing, or professional services is an asset.


• Exposure to project accounting, job costing, work in progress, utilization, or project profitability is particularly valuable.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000 , depending on experience, technical capability, and progression toward the CPA designation.
