Course Description: This is a business course for musicians. Concepts such as incorporation, accounting and taxation are introduced as well as methods of finance. Models of commerce specific to the music industry are analyzed. Case studies are reviewed, and students will formulate and present a business plan. Research, best practices, and models from the international Music Cities movement are applied.

Class Schedule: Fridays 3-6pm in the Winter term

Months of contract: January to April 2027

Salary: $9,997.48

Qualifications: Graduate degree in Music Business or closely related field. Industry experience in the cultural sector, including expert knowledge of business models, accounting, taxation, and publicity relevant for music performers, creators, and producers. Experience as an artist in music performance, creation, or production.

Duties: Define course objectives and materials; provide clear guidelines on course requirements and regulations; teach classes as scheduled; administer and evaluate student assignments; prepare and submit final grades in accordance with policy. Maintain reasonable hours of student consultation outside scheduled class hours.
