Theater Technician

For over 45 years, Trickster Theatre has been transforming Alberta schools through the power of physical theatre. What began in 1980 as a one-person touring show has grown into one of the province's most trusted Artist-in-Schools programs — two touring companies, more than 1,300 residencies delivered across urban classrooms, rural communities, and Indigenous reserves throughout Alberta.

Our residency model places professional theatre artists inside a school for one week, working alongside students to create and perform a fully original show. Their imagination, their stories, and their community are the raw material.

Any theme is possible — schools choose what matters most to them. The process draws on physical theatre, clowning, improvisation, and movement, refined over four and a half decades of practice. The result is not a school play. It is a professional, community-witnessed performance that students carry with them long after the curtain falls — because every student belongs on stage. We support educators and administrators through every step: from the first conversation and funding applications, all the way to opening night.

About the role

Summer positions available through the Canada Summer Jobs program

We are looking for motivated, organized, and hands-on individuals to support our summer overhaul and prep for the upcoming touring season

Applicants must be 30 years old or under

8-week position ending in late August 2026

Valid driver's licence required

Ideal for someone who thrives in a creative, behind-the-scenes environment

Responsabilities - Theatre Technician

Test, maintain, repair, and organize lighting, sound, video, and staging equipment

Prepare touring rigs, storage systems, cargo manifests, and production inventories

Inventory, repair, and care for costumes, props, puppets, and technical supplies

Experience or genuine interest in technical theatre and backstage operations

Strong troubleshooting skills and comfortable working independently
