Platform Reliability Engineer

Role Summary

Platform Reliability Engineer within the Manulife Global Wealth & Asset Management (GWAM) – Platform Engineering, responsible for maintaining, enhancing Azure Kubernetes Services, supporting platform operational procedures, and ensuring ITIL processes are completed in a timely manner. The role includes identifying, resolving, and escalating issues related to platform management, compliance, and security patterns; owning customer issues from inception to resolution; and investigating and resolving client and product/platform issues in a multi‑vendor environment.

Responsibilities

• Assure consistent delivery of product services on a 24*7 basis within well‑defined Service Level Agreements.
• Work with Platform Services on Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure PaaS, APIM, GHA CI/CD pipelines, Terraform and GitHub.
• Proactively assist in the management of platform operations and configuration.
• Support SWIFT Development team onboarding of applications into AKS cluster.
• Support AKS cluster operations including upgrade and patching.
• Manage intake requests, reviewing and completing SWIFT requests according to SLA.
• Deploy resources using Infrastructure as Code Terraform templates.
• Collaborate with key partners, other IS groups and operational support teams.
• Support development team deployment activities which may occur in evenings and on weekends.
• Participate in on‑call rotation.

Qualifications

• University degree (Computer Science or related subject area preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Hands‑on experience in Azure Cloud.
• Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service and Terraform is a must.
• Knowledge and experience with common Kubernetes tools and primitives: kubectl, pods, deployments, services, YAML manifests.
• Ability to learn new technologies and keep up to date on the vendor landscape.
• Good interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.

Key Technologies (Familiarity Preferred)

• CI/CD: Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub, GitHub Actions
• Monitoring: New Relic, DEVO, ADX or Azure Monitor
• Azure PaaS: AKS, k8s components, load balancers (ISTIO, Azure ILB or NGINX)
• K8s: Fluxcd, Helm, kustomize

Salary & Location

• Toronto, Ontario – salary range $86,100.00CAD – $136,100.00CAD.
• Boston, USA – salary range $90,160USD – $128,800USD (mid‑point) – $167,440USD.
• Hybrid work arrangement: 3 days in office, 2 days from home.
