Child and Family Services Practice Lead

Job Responsibility:

The Okanagan Indian Band is currently accepting applications for a Child and Family Practice Lead within our Health & Social Development Department.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Child and Family Services (CFS) Practice Lead will be responsible for assessment, treatment, and/or referral services to clients and their families who may be experiencing emotional, psychological, behavioral or psychiatric issues. The Child and Family Services Practice Lead will oversee quality client- centered care ensuring cultural continuity. The CFS Practice Lead will encounter the widest range of potentially serious and complex CFS practice situations and will be expected to provide clinical consultation representing the “best” practice guidance in each case situation. The Child and Family Services Practice Lead will work with the Ministry of Children and Families and other external partners to provide support to families, children and youth that are working with the Ministry or other agencies in any capacity including child protection investigations, or on-going service agreements.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.

• MSW or BSW or Bachelor of Child and Youth Care, or a combination of related education and relevant experience
• Eligible for BC registration with relevant professional discipline
• Five years of relevant experience
• Experience working in First Nations Communities
• Valid BC driver's license, class 5 and reliable vehicle
• Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain
• Criminal records check with vulnerable sector clearance

SUPPORTS NEEDED

• Oversee and provide guidance on crisis intervention and be available for some afterhours calls with the Ministry of Children and Families and/or other external CFS agencies
• Understand the Child, Family and Community Service Act and other relevant legislation
• Assist staff, individuals (clients) and families to navigate government services
• Liaise & consult with community agencies, schools, hospitals, & other social service agencies
• Supporting implementation of critical recommendations from Practice and Operational audits
• Establishing effective professional relationships with external agency staff
• Supporting Director of Health and Social Development in on-going management functions such as: development of appropriate service delivery models, human resource management, maintenance of administrative functions i.e. file management, confidentiality and privacy, financial management practices, administration of applicable privacy regulations
• Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge, skill, and proficiency in all aspects of child and family services program delivery
• Work in a collaborative team environment to ensure effective, efficient, & accountable delivery of service
• Work with Child and Family Capacity Building Initiative team on an as required basis, towards developing an OKIB specific CFS model of practice
• Promote & maintain working relationships with community partners
• Develop & deliver psychoeducational workshops to OKIB staff as well as clients & their families.
• Comply with code of ethics in respect to professional designation & relevant legislation
• Work with Health and Social Development (HSD) Program Leads towards supporting a culture of continuous quality improvement across all HSD program areas
• Perform all duties & responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies & procedures
• All persons employed by the OKIB may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties
• Participates in community events as requested
• Performs other duties as required

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $30.00-$43.00 per hour
