Cool Aid operates 3 Shelters and 14 Supportive Housing sites within the Greater Victoria area, supporting folks who are or may be vulnerably housed. Casual staff are trained at a variety of sites based on need, with the opportunity to work across all sites.

The Mental Health Worker provides a variety of housing and shelter services including case planning, programming for clients, assisting with daily physical and emotional supports, responding to overdoses, administering first aid and Naloxone, accepting referrals, registering, orienting, and advocating for clients who are vulnerably housed or experiencing homelessness. We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with clients that may have been vulnerably housed in the past.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with your team to advocate for clients and provide them with client-centred support, including linking them in with external resources.

To succeed, you will have an excellent understanding of the issues faced by our client group. This includes experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds who face multiple barriers, such as substance use, mental health concerns, low incomes, and negative impacts of colonialism and racism.

Qualifications

Education

• Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field.

Experience

• At least two (2) years of experience working in a related environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Direct experience in the community social services sector with a working knowledge of community support agencies and resources is preferred.

Requirements

• Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C.
• Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

Job Information

• Hourly Wage Rate (with overnight premium): $32.18 – $35.49
• Note: The base wage rate for this position is $30.18 – $33.49. An overnight premium of $2.00/hour applies to shifts that go past midnight.
• Work Locations: 560 Burnside Road East - Crosstown
• Schedule and Shift Time: Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 07:00 am, Thursday from 7:30 pm to 07:30 am, Friday from 7:30 pm to 07:30 am and every fourth Saturday from 7:30 pm to 07:30 am.
• Total Weekly Hours: 35.75.
• Union BCGEU.
• Job Type: Full-time, permanent.
