About the Department/Region

Context:

The Central Regional Office maintains and supports all NL Housing rental properties in

the Grand Falls and Gander areas, as well as delivering a variety of programs designed for low

to moderate income households and homeowners. The region provides a wide range of

services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts

and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations; and

monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. Regional staff members are

involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy

Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Salary Scale: $43,338 to $46,820 per annum (CG-19, $20.86 to $22.51 per hour), 40-hour work week

Duties:

The incumbent performs manual, at times physically demanding, semi-skilled work required for the maintenance and renovation of NL Housing units, as well as upkeep on the grounds. Work may involve the safe use of various tools used for construction and maintenance, as well as use of a corporate owned vehicle. The work of the position is often labour intensive and is performed inside (occupied and unoccupied units) and outside, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Examples of work include loading and unloading trucks/trailers, shovelling snow and salting walkways, mowing lawns, keeping worksites clean from debris, moving appliances, cutting construction materials, and assisting trades staff in replacing drywall, tiles, windows, doors, and frames, as wells as assisting in mould/mildew remediation work. Other related work, including removal of debris and garbage from vacant units, collection of residential garbage at various locations, and custodial duties at multiple buildings i.e. (apartment, office, and seniors buildings) may be required.

Screening Criteria

Completion of high school diploma (equivalencies may be considered)

Experience in the building trades (semi-skilled level)

Experience in ground maintenance (asset)

Custodial experience (asset)

Assessment Criteria

Knowledge of the building trades at the semi-skilled level

Knowledge of grounds maintenance and the tools and equipment used in the performance of such work

Knowledge of custodial practices, including care and use of related equipment (asset)

Knowledge of safe work practices, including the use and storage of chemicals and solvents

Ability to effectively exchange information

Ability to manage time and tasks while working independently

Relationship building

Conditions of Offer:

Proof of a valid class 5 driver's license

An acceptable driver's abstract

Conditions of Acceptance:

Willing to accept requirement for access to private transportation for business purposes
