Supervisor, Indigenous and Child and Family Center (Malvern)

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager of Early Years, Youth and Community Programs, the Supervisor of the Indigenous Child and Family Centre provides leadership grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.The Supervisor is responsible for fostering a culturally grounded, relationship-based environment where children, families, and community members are supported in their holistic development - spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally.

 
This role ensures that programs are community-driven, culturally rooted, and responsive to the strengths and needs of Indigenous families, while aligning with relevant legislation and funder requirements. The Supervisor supports families in strengthening identity, connection, and belonging, and plays a key role in weaving together culture, community, and service delivery.

Guiding Approach: Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing:

• Ground all programming, relationships, and decision-making in Indigenous teachings, values, and cultural practices.
• Foster environments rooted in respect, reciprocity, relational accountability, and community connection.
• Support the integration of land-based, cultural, and intergenerational learning opportunities.
• Ensure services reflect distinctions-based approaches and honour diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis identities.
• Balance Indigenous knowledge systems with required external frameworks (e.g., ELECT, EarlyON) while maintaining cultural integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and implementation of culturally grounded early learning, youth, and community programs rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.
• Guide the implementation of emergent programming where Indigenous pedagogies are primary and external frameworks support culturally rooted practice.
• Build and sustain meaningful relationships with Indigenous families, Elders, Knowledge Carriers, and community partners.
• Ensure all programs promote cultural safety, identity development, and belonging for children and families.
• Support staff in strengthening their knowledge and application of Indigenous practices in daily work.
• Oversee program operations, scheduling, and adherence to EarlyON, OCA Standards and licensing requirements.
• Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and mentorship to staff and students.
• Support in the oversight of budgets, reporting, and program data in alignment with organizational and funder expectations.
• Coordinate community outreach, forums, partnerships, and networking committees.
• Ensure safe, welcoming, and inclusive program environments
• Support in the overview of site safety and building maintenance needs.
• Other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

• Post-secondary education in social services or equivalent and a minimum 2 years’ experience supervising an Early Years Program or Community Programs. 
• Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
• Current First Aid and CPR (level C) certificates.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing and ability to integrate into practice.
• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and program requirements.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work demands.
• Practical knowledge of relevant legislation (Childcare and Early Years Act, Toronto Public Health, Quality Assurance, Occupational Health and Safety, Early ON operating Guidelines, Ontario Camp Association, etc.)
• Competence with computer-based technology for the purpose of scheduling, data entry, information sourcing, budget management, fees, report writing and program quality control.
• Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values into practice, service, and relationships.
• Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
