ICBC’s Public Affairs team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Public Relations Advisor with a focus on helping to lead the development of ICBC’s corporate media relations strategy and act as a spokesperson. The advisor may also help develop communication plans for high-profile corporate initiatives. The advisor will build and maintain ICBC’s reputation through both proactive and reactive media communications and will frequently be required to have availability outside of normal working hours.
In this role, you will:
- Identify, develop and pitch proactive stories and public relations opportunities that enhance ICBC’s reputation, corporate strategy and public perception.
- Provide timely responses to media inquiries and other related requests for communication materials, ensuring consistency, and an integrated approach with corporate priorities, and brand calendar.
- Draft key messages, news releases/ media pitches, sponsored content, event plans, speaking notes, issues notes, estimates and other legislative preparation documents, and other materials.
- Act as a corporate spokesperson with media, including on camera and on-air interviews.
- Build and maintain working relationships inside and outside the corporation, including key media reporters, editors, publishers and others, to enable effective media relations activities.
- Provide advice to business areas on public relations activities and issues management matters, including developing key messages and response strategies.
- Lead the corporate issues management process, including crisis communications plan. Ensure appropriate measures are taken for timely identification, tracking, reporting and mitigation of potential issues, media matters and reputational risks.
- Coordinate the production of media and issues-related legislative briefing documents, messaging.
- Lead development of issues, and communication materials for executives, government and other key audiences as required.
- Engage in discussions with government communications team on topics of the day to ensure alignment of messaging.
- Monitor media coverage, emerging issues and public trends to identify risks, ensure accuracy, support timely responses, and identify opportunities for positive media coverage.
- Maintain ICBC’s crisis communication plans, leads crisis communications exercises and supports divisional business continuity planning activities.
Position Requirements
- A background in media relations strategy, experience acting as a spokesperson, and corporate communications planning in a large multi-stakeholder organization or an equivalent combination of experience and education (preferably an undergraduate degree in a related field).
- Experience working for a Crown corporation is an asset.
- Knowledge of corporate and divisional goals, strategies, objectives and lines of business.
- Experience doing work that requires understanding of complex concepts and procedures.
- You are a team player with excellent organizational skills, strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- You are willing to work as hard as the job demands and put in the hours required to ensure your projects are a success.

Work arrangements defined
- Resident – you will work at your primary in-office headquarters on all scheduled workdays.
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
- Hybrid 10 – you will work a minimum of 10 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically one week in/one week out or up to 3 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
- Mobile – you will work a significant amount of time in the field, in addition to working from an office and optionally working remotely within British Columbia.
- Remote – you will work remotely from within British Columbia, with one required visit to your primary office per month.
