Are you passionate about inclusive education and dedicated to helping students with complex needs thrive? Sturgeon Composite High School is seeking a compassionate and experienced Full-Time Temporary Specialized Programming Teacher to join our team from August 25, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
Located just minutes north of Edmonton and St. Albert, Sturgeon Composite High School is one of Alberta's largest rural high schools, serving around 950 students. Our Specialized Programming team supports students with significant cognitive delays and complex learning profiles by offering meaningful, individualized learning experiences within a fully inclusive school community.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and implement individualized programming (IPP, Safety, Behaviour, Medical, and Transition plans)
- Teach and support students in inclusive and specialized environments
- Provide daily direction and mentorship to Educational Assistants
- Collaborate with families, therapists, and community agencies to support student development
- Support personal care routines and ensure physical, emotional, and academic needs are met
- Facilitate transition planning for life after high school, including collaboration with outside agencies (FCSD/PDD/AISH/Group Home, etc.)
- Advocate for inclusive opportunities across the school Participate in ongoing professional development related to student needs
- A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- 3-5 years of experience supporting students with developmental disabilities and diverse learning needs
- Training or experience with:
- NVCI or TCI (preferred)
- ABLLS, AFLS, AAC, and Functional Behavioral Analysis (asset)
- Level B Assessment (asset)
- Strong skills in team leadership, collaboration, and communication
- A solution-focused, student-centered, and empathetic approach to teaching
- Physical ability to assist with lifts, mobility, and personal care when required Clear Criminal Record Check

- Lead and mentor a dedicated team of Educational Assistants Help shape inclusive programming that celebrates every learner
