For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students with a background in Cybersecurity, Information Management, Business, or a related field. Candidates must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution for the full duration of the co-op term and plan to return to their studies upon completion for at least one academic term. If you are not currently located near the work location, you must be willing to commute or temporarily relocate for the work term. A valid study permit and studentship letter will be required where applicable.  

The Data Protection Operations Co-op supports the day-to-day operation of Microsoft Purview data protection controls by assisting with monitoring, reporting, governance activities, and operational assurance processes. The role provides hands-on experience in information protection, data loss prevention (DLP), sensitivity labeling, compliance monitoring, and Microsoft 365 governance. The co-op will work with Data Protection Operations, Security, Privacy, and IT teams. They will help maintain control efficiency, and support operational reporting. They will also improve the team’s ability to detect and address data protection risks.  

The goal for this co-op is to improve visibility into the efficiency and effectiveness of data protection controls while reducing the administrative effort required for monitoring, reporting, evidence collection, and governance activities. This allows the team to focus on investigations, policy tuning, incident response, risk management, and continuous improvement of Microsoft Purview controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Support monitoring and reporting of Microsoft Purview DLP alerts, policy activity, and operational metrics
• Assist with analysis of DLP trends, false positives, recurring issues, and policy performance
• Support sensitivity label and auto-labeling quality assurance activities, including validation and tracking of classification outcomes
• Prepare dashboards, scorecards, and reporting packages for operational governance reviews and leadership reporting
• Maintain evidence repositories and support control effectiveness reviews and audit readiness activities
• Track operational action items, remediation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Document procedures, job aids, and process improvements to support operational maturity and knowledge management
• Research Microsoft Purview capabilities, emerging data protection trends, and opportunities to improve operational effectiveness  

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Cybersecurity, Information Management, Business, or a related field  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in cybersecurity, data analysis, and business processes 
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze, organize, and summarize data; intermediate to advanced Excel skills are preferred 
• Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor, investigate, and respond to cybersecurity alerts and trends 
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects and competing deadlines 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document processes and communicate findings clearly 
• Experience creating and maintaining documentation, policies, dashboards, or reports 
• Experience with Power BI would be considered an asset

Pay Range: CAD $4,108 - $5,183 per month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
