Senior Reliability Engineer - Mechanical

Position Overview Primary Responsibilities

Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to define reliability requirements, equipment performance expectations, and asset management strategies across mechanical systems.

Conduct detailed engineering analyses to evaluate equipment performance, degradation mechanisms, and operational risks associated with mechanical and rotating equipment.

Develop and maintain reliability models, asset health assessments, and risk-based maintenance strategies to optimize equipment lifecycle performance.

Prepare high-quality engineering reports, reliability assessments, failure analyses, and technical documentation supporting mechanical systems and asset management programs.

Execute reliability engineering work in one or more of the following areas:

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)

Root cause analysis (RCA) and incident investigation

Reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) program development

Condition monitoring, vibration analysis, lubrication programs, and predictive maintenance technologies

Reliability modeling, Weibull analysis, and asset risk quantification

Review engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with reliability principles, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.

Support installation, commissioning, and modification of mechanical equipment, ensuring reliability considerations are integrated into field execution.

Lead investigations into equipment failures, chronic issues, and system performance gaps; develop corrective and preventive action plans.

Develop and implement maintenance strategies, inspection plans, and asset management programs to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment availability.

Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, and evaluate vendor proposals related to mechanical equipment, reliability services, and condition monitoring technologies.

Support the Mechanical Discipline Lead in coordinating technical work, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring consistent reliability engineering practices across projects.

Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, and schedule development for reliability-related engineering activities.

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure integrated and effective reliability solutions.

Maintain strong communication with site leadership, maintenance teams, and external stakeholders to support safe and reliable operations.

Stay current with emerging reliability technologies, digital tools, and industry best practices in asset performance management.

Prepare and/or review documentation for regulatory submissions, compliance requirements, and mechanical/pressure equipment standards.

Mentor junior engineers and technologists, supporting capability development within the reliability and mechanical engineering teams.

Perform additional duties as required to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required.

Professional Engineering licensure with APEGS or eligibility for registration in Saskatchewan is required.

Minimum 7–10 years of experience in reliability engineering, mechanical engineering, or rotating equipment analysis.

Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:

Reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) and asset strategy development

Root cause analysis and failure investigation

Condition monitoring (vibration, thermography, lubrication, ultrasound)

Mechanical system design, rotating equipment, and asset performance analysis

Experience in mining, heavy industrial, or processing facilities—both greenfield and brownfield—is strongly preferred.

Field experience in industrial or mining environments; must be comfortable working on-site and engaging with frontline maintenance teams.

Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to integrate reliability and risk reduction principles into engineering and field activities.

Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality engineering outputs.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
