Job Details: Position Title: Dean, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Status: Full Time Hours: 37.5 hours per week Faculty/Department: Inclusion and Belonging Campus/Location: North Campus Minimum Starting Salary: $162,037; starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience.

About the Inclusion and Belonging Department at Humber: Humber Polytechnic's Inclusion, Belonging and Student Experience division works to foster an inclusive Humber by taking an intersectional approach to building belonging through equity, Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing, and sustainability. The division leads collaborative initiatives and innovative programs that create a welcoming environment where students and staff feel valued, empowered, and able to thrive, all while advancing Humber's vision of building brilliance through belonging. About the Role:

Under the general direction of the Vice-President Inclusion, Belonging and Student Experience, the Dean of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging will work closely with the school's administrative, academic, and student leaders to advance EDI in teaching, learning and organizational culture. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of a range of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Indigenization issues, and will contribute to advancing principles and values of EDI through education, training, mentorship, and dialogue with students, staff, faculty, and alumni groups. Advance student success outcomes, determine gaps and address unmet needs that align with institutional strategic objectives such as our commitments under the Okanagan Charter and Humber's Institutional EDIB Framework/EDIB Plan and advancement of Humber Learning Outcomes.

Responsibilities include operational and financial planning and management, public relations, public education, and positioning Humber Polytechnic as the leading postsecondary institution in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Advance student success outcomes, determine gaps, and address unmet needs that align with institutional strategic objectives such as our commitments under the Okanagan Charter and Humber's Institutional EDIB Framework/EDIB Plan and advancement of Humber Learning Outcomes.

The Dean, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) provides leadership, strategic planning, and culturally fluent, context-sensitive advisement to both the Senior Leadership Team and the wider Polytechnic community. This is an integral member of the Inclusion, Belonging and Student Experience Leadership Team responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing programs, policies, and practices that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within the campus community and beyond. The Dean EDIB will work to foster an inclusive campus environment where individual differences are recognized, embraced, and valued. Working with academic, student, and administrative leaders across Humber Polytechnic campuses to align efforts, share programs and best practices, and ensure measurement systems are leveraged to promote accountability and assess EDIB efforts.

Education A Master's degree in a related discipline (e.g., equity studies, law, social justice, sociology, social work, public administration, etc.).

Experience/Skills

  • 7-10 years of experience in leadership in a complex unionized environment, preferably in a post-secondary education setting.
  • Lived experience and expertise in EDI knowledge, epistemologies, methodologies, histories, traditions and/or languages.
  • Well-developed critical EDI lenses on a variety of issues.
  • An in-depth understanding of and experience with human rights legislation, policies, and practices, as well as critical theories and pedagogy (critical race theory, decolonization, anti-racism, anti-oppression, queer theory, disability justice, etc.).
  • Success in developing partnerships and strategic alliances.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Equity Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.
  • Knowledge of matters related to disability and accommodation in a post-secondary environment.
  • Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience with research and report preparation for multiple purposes.
  • The ability to relate to and work alongside employees and students to advance EDI.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to quickly assess and understand subtexts, culture, and politics.
  • The ability to face challenges and to exercise integrity, flexibility, and good judgment.
  • The ability to work collegially and effectively within a unionized environment, building trusting relationships both internally and externally.
  • Decisiveness combined with a relational leadership style.

  • EDI Strategist: A leader in the field of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, who has proven experience in designing and implementing strategies and initiatives that are sustainable and support an organization's vision and purpose.
  • Change Leader & Influencer: Ability to navigate the complex structure and governance within a college to build and develop sustainable relationships. Effectively rally people around a common vision, build consensus, and effectively influence and coach individuals and groups.
  • Inclusive Leadership: A champion of inclusion and equitable approaches in both day-to-day actions and overall leadership style. Model the behaviours required to achieve Humber's overall purpose of being a safe and inclusive academic learning community.
  • Program Development & Management: Possess a strong skillset in overseeing and delivering on multiple projects of varying complexities. Set clear goals, prioritize effectively, influence and manage multiple stakeholders and ensure sustainable implementation of objectives.
  • Innovator & Lifelong Learner: Recognizing the continuous evolution of EDIB matters within our current community and educational environment, leverage strong knowledge and experience, while showcasing the willingness to adapt, learn and design outside-the-box solutions. Be entrepreneurial and resourceful in their quest to apply learnings within the Humber to build an equitable and inclusive community.
  • Executive Leadership Presence: Effective ability to influence, inspire and motivate staff and other partners to drive strong results via cohesion and healthy collaboration; showcases willingness to make tough decisions that consider both short and long-term impacts.
