Associate / Full Professor - Director, Fellowship Programs

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Director, Fellowship Programs.  The appointment is for a five-year term, with the possibility of one renewal following a successful review.  Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is March 1, 2027, or an alternative date as mutually agreed upon.

The Director, Fellowship Programs is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the Department. The Director, Fellowship Programs, is responsible for the overall organization, quality, accountability, and ongoing development of the department’s clinical fellowship programs. Working collaboratively with divisional leadership, Fellowship Directors and supervisors, the Director supports consistent educational standards across programs, identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation, and promotes high-quality fellowship training in the Department.  The Director, Fellowship Programs reports directly to the Vice Chair, Education or their designate; this position is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. They should have a strong understanding of postgraduate medical education and clinical fellowship training and demonstrate strong leadership, relationship-building, and collaboration skills. Experience in educational leadership, program development and evaluation, quality improvement, or postgraduate medical education would be an asset.  

Applicants must hold an MD degree, be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (RCPSC) of Canada in one of the medicine specialties or be eligible for RCPSC certification and licensure in Ontario. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience as a Fellowship Director, Fellowship Supervisor, or Program Director.

The hospital site for the Program Director’s clinical activities will be one of the following fully affiliated University sites: Baycrest, Sinai Health System, St. Michael’s Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University Health Network, and Women’s College Hospital. The Director, Fellowships Program will receive an annual stipend of $50,000 and administrative support from the Department of Medicine.
