Supervised Behaviour Therapist

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of a member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO), the position of Supervised Behaviour Therapist is responsible for providing instructional and behavioural techniques in a variety of capacities related to client service delivery. In addition to the direct involvement in service delivery, a Supervised Behaviour Therapist plans and develops behavioural strategies and approaches and provides recommendations to internal and external professionals.

The behavioural function pertains to individual and group support strategies that promote social, academic, emotional, motivational and interpersonal functioning. A Supervised Behaviour Therapist is involved in the development of behavioural services and special programs, while also participating in the creation and implementation of behaviour plans and monitoring ongoing cases.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 4-year University Degree in a Behavioural Science program or a related discipline
• 3 years related experience
• Sound theoretical and practical application knowledge of behavioural science and standards, developmental disabilities, dual diagnostics and psychiatry, cognitive development and training and behavioural interventions
• Able to work with multi-disciplinary team members
• Good interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport and trust
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain abstract concepts to clients and professionals of varied backgrounds and abilities
• Extensive experience with data collection and analysis for the purpose of administering standardized tests and checklists
• Extensive experience with Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) methods, individualized Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), data collection and interpretation, and specialized instructional strategies
• Able to generate hypotheses concerning optimal approaches to intervention and to test the validity of the hypotheses generated
• High degree of critical thinking skills
• Excellent report writing skills, evaluation and test analysis documentation
• Well-developed organization skills
• CPI, CPR and First Aid would be an asset
• Valid Ontario driver’s license, driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A MEMBER OF THE CPBAO

1. DEVELOPS BEHAVIOURAL STRATEGIES AND INTERVENTION PROGRAMS BY:

• Formulating goals and objectives for both the participant and significant others in the participant’s social environment
• Developing behavioural strategies and approaches and monitoring individual progress and outcomes
• Overall monitoring and evaluating of individuals and programs
• Researching and refining techniques or strategies of intervention to meet client needs with the goal of matching the abilities of the client to the desired outcomes

2. MEDIATES INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESSES BY:

• Providing mediation on the instructional process to staff involved in implementing behavioural strategies or engaging in training or interventions
• Providing knowledge of resources and materials and providing training when required

3. ADMINISTERS INSTRUCTIONAL AND OTHER INTERVENTION ACTIVITIES BY:

• Conducting group and individual interventions for the purpose of promoting social, academic, emotional-affective and interpersonal functioning (clients include children, adults and adolescents with significant behavioural impairments)

4. FACILITATES DATA COLLECTION AND SKILL ACQUISITION BY:

• Interpreting baseline and ongoing behavioural data for individuals, parents/guardians, caregivers, and staff
• Collaborating with parents/guardians, caregivers, and staff to design practical, reliable, and accurate data collection tools
• Completing behaviour rating scales, structured interviews, standardized behaviour assessments, and questionnaires to assess baseline skill levels, identify teaching targets, and create structured learning goals
• Completing plan reviews and facilitating progress reviews with the clinical supervisor
• Collaborating with other DSLG services, community partners, and medical services

• Operates, at all times, in a safe and secure manner

7. HEALTH AND SAFETY:

• Ensure Health and Safety Program requirements are followed based on the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Ensure an awareness of safety measures for the agency, yourself and the individuals receiving services
• Ensure compliance with the agency’s mandatory training requirements

ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Behaviour Therapist position is directly accountable to the Manager, Specialized Services.

Location: Brockville, Ontario

Job Types: Temporary Full-time

Contract Length: 12 months (up to 18 months)

Wage: $35.24 - $39.76 hourly

Hours: 72.5 Bi-weekly
