About This Role

As the Lead Project Accountant, you will play a critical role in overseeing the financial integrity and success of complex projects across the organization. Reporting within the Finance team, you will lead project accounting activities, ensuring accurate project invoicing, revenue recognition, contract compliance, and financial reporting, while serving as a key liaison between Finance, Project Management, and external stakeholders.

This position combines project accounting, accounts receivable, and financial analysis responsibilities, with a strong focus on government funding programs, partner agreements, and customer contracts. You will oversee project financial data within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, manage invoicing and payment tracking, monitor project costs and revenue recognition, and support monthly reporting, audits, compliance requirements, and continuous process improvements.

This is a hybrid position and employees are expected to work in-office 2-3 days per week. The position is structured as a 12-month contract role and based in Svante's head office located in Burnaby, BC.

About the Candidate

We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative accounting professional who brings extensive experience in project accounting, financial reporting, and project financial management. The ideal candidate is highly organized, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes ownership of delivering accurate, timely financial information while building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, project teams, and external partners.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to project accounting, accounts receivable, project costing, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.

• Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a comparable ERP/accounting system.

• A strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and project accounting best practices.

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality financial records and internal controls.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

• Strong relationship-building skills with experience partnering closely with Finance, project managers, funding partners, customers, and senior business leaders.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business productivity tools.

• The ability to manage multiple priorities, lead complex financial activities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs in a dynamic environment.

• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to lead initiatives, drive process improvements, and take ownership of key financial processes.

This role offers a competitive base salary in the range of CAD $76,800–$105,600 . The total rewards package also includes extended health and dental benefits, paid vacation, sick leave, a health or wellness spending account and many other professional and personal development perks.
