JP Recruitment is working with a well-established North American manufacturer of custom commercial HVAC equipment to identify a Sales Engineer for the Ottawa market. This opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with customers and building long-term professional relationships. Rather than selling standardized equipment from a catalogue, you will help engineers, contractors and building owners identify HVAC solutions suited to the specific requirements of each project. You will become a technical resource for your customers while developing a strong presence throughout Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. The role offers extensive product and application training, making it an attractive opportunity for both experienced HVAC professionals and technically strong candidates looking to move into a customer-facing engineering career.

Your Role:

You will be responsible for developing business and supporting commercial HVAC projects from the early design stage through equipment selection, quotation and project award.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Building relationships with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, developers, building owners and other industry professionals.
• Learning the technical capabilities and applications of a broad range of custom HVAC equipment.
• Working with customers to evaluate building requirements and identify appropriate equipment solutions.
• Supporting consulting engineers during the design and specification stages of commercial projects.
• Reviewing mechanical drawings, schedules, specifications and tender documents.
• Completing equipment selections and preparing technical quotations and proposals.
• Presenting products, applications and technical solutions to engineering firms and customers.
• Tracking upcoming construction projects and developing opportunities before they reach the tender stage.
• Managing customer relationships throughout a lengthy and consultative sales cycle.
• Coordinating with internal engineering, manufacturing and service teams.
• Providing technical support before, during and after equipment installation.
• Developing a strong understanding of the Ottawa and Eastern Ontario commercial construction market.
• Growing the territory through consistent relationship development and technical credibility.

What Will Make You Successful:

You do not need to arrive knowing every product or application. The company provides comprehensive technical training and ongoing mentorship.

You should, however, bring a strong technical foundation, curiosity and the confidence to work directly with customers.

The preferred candidate will have:

• A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Building Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience or education related to HVAC, building systems, mechanical equipment or commercial construction.
• The ability to interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schedules and project specifications.
• An understanding of heating, cooling, ventilation, air distribution or related mechanical systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A professional and consultative approach to business development.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several active projects at once.
• The initiative to build relationships and develop a territory over time.
• A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel within Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.

Previous technical sales experience would be an asset, but candidates coming from engineering, estimating, applications, project coordination or another customer-facing HVAC position may also be considered.
