Sitter/Support Worker

Position Details Hours: Mondays & Fridays, 2:30–4:30 pm Potential for additional hours and occasional weekends in the future Location: Pickering (school is a 5‑minute drive from our home) Key Responsibilities Pick up from school and support a smooth, safe transition home Help 11 year old boy follow his visual schedule for independent routines and simple chores Prepare his after‑school snack independently or with child Engage him in active, movement‑based activities (running, trampoline, exercise) Support daily living skills, communication, and socialization through structured activities Participate in simple learning routines (e.g., reading, functional math in everyday tasks) Maintain safety and respond appropriately to: Food‑seeking behaviour Eloping for chase (not escape) Maintaining instructional control Light household tasks (laundry, tidying, basic meal prep) Future Training & Expanded Role As the relationship develops, we will provide additional training so the support assistant can eventually take him into the community for meaningful outings, such as: Nature walks Park visits Walking or running the track Swimming Transit practice Other structured community activities Supporting social and communication interactions with others For now, the focus is home‑based support and safety. Qualifications Experience supporting children with autism or special needs is required Comfortable managing sensory needs and food‑seeking behaviours Warm, patient, active, and playful approach Strong organizational skills and reliability (require someone who is committed long-term) Ability to work independently and follow structured routines Valid driver’s license and/or access to a vehicle for school pick-ups Schedule & Compensation Part‑time hours: 2:30–4:30 pm on Mondays and Fridays Competitive hourly wage based on experience Additional hours may be available as training progresses To Apply If you’re passionate about making a positive impact and creating joyful, meaningful experiences for a child, we would love to hear from you.
