The Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is instrumental in developing enterprise analytics and data solutions and providing technical support for the enterprise data management platform. Using deep experience in implementing scalable analytics on modern data platforms, the role supports enterprise data capabilities such as data integration, analytics enablement, enterprise data modelling, governance, and data quality across hybrid data architectures (cloud and on-premises).

This Position

• Develops, enhances and supports complex data solutions, tools and automations, partnering closely with internal business units and technical teams
• Involves working on multiple enterprise initiatives focused on the implementation of new or enhanced systems, solutions and processes.
• Translates business requirements into technical specifications and implements secure, scalable, and compliant data and analytics solutions

What Success Looks Like

• Partner with business stakeholders and the Information Services team to scope initiatives, define requirements, estimate costs and resources, and identify expected business benefits.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of VFPA's enterprise data platform modernization roadmap.
• Design, develop, implement, and support enterprise data models, databases, integrations, and data management solutions across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Develop and maintain data transformation, integration, and analytics solutions that support enterprise reporting, dashboards, and decision-making.
• Implement and monitor data quality controls, validation processes, metadata standards, and governance practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and usability.
• Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models, semantic layers, and analytical datasets to support reporting and self-service analytics.
• Design, build, and deploy dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions, including business logic and calculations to meet organizational needs.
• Monitor, maintain, optimize, and secure data infrastructure, including databases, storage, backups, disaster recovery, access controls, and performance tuning.
• Research emerging technologies, develop proofs of concept, and recommend scalable and sustainable data platform solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, support operational continuity, and participate in strategies related to data availability, security, recovery, and migration.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree in Information Technology or an acceptable degree in a related field
• A minimum of 5 years of senior BI development experience in an enterprise environment.
• A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience designing, building and supporting enterprise data solutions with Microsoft Fabric environment, including Lakehouse, Warehouse OneLake, Data Factory orchestration, semantic modeling, and deployment across development and production environments.
• Must have demonstrated experience with physical and logical design of database architecture for relational databases, data warehouses and data lakes.
• Must have demonstrated experience with database optimization, data replication, database recovery and performance tuning.
• Must have expertise in data warehousing and data integration: dimensional modelling, facts, dimensions, helper tables, SCD concepts etc.
• Must have experience working with enterprise data models, data dictionaries, metadata/cataloging platforms and technical data quality controls in a governed analytics environment.
• Must have demonstrated experience with the development of enterprise semantic models and analytical datasets.
• Must have an understanding of dashboard deployment models across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Must have strong SQL skills and experience with analytical expressions (e.g. DAX)
• Must have experience with Azure DevOps or Git-based source control, including CI/CD pipeline implementation and deployment automation.
• Must have experience with functional programing languages (R, Python etc.), APIs and web services, data security principles, efficiency, quality and governance, complex technical and architectural documentation skills.

Salary: The starting rate for this position is $62.94 per hour, with scheduled wage progression in accordance with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 517 collective agreement. Based on a 40 hour work week.

Working environment: Normal working office conditions and may be required to occasionally respond to off-hour calls for system critical issues.
