Position Summary

The Drop-In Centre Worker will support the daily operations of Studio Central, Artbeat Studio's urban arts centre that provides free community arts programming. The youth will help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for adults who access the drop-in program for creative expression, social connection, and wellness. This is a meaningful, hands-on role working alongside the Studio Central Program Manager and a dedicated team committed to community arts and wellbeing.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Welcome participants to the drop-in centre, offer guidance, and help create a supportive, respectful, and inclusive space
• Assist with daily arts programming, including preparing materials, setting up workspaces, and supporting facilitators during workshops and open studio sessions
• Offer basic support to participants with art materials, creative processes, and navigating the studio environment (no clinical or therapeutic duties)
• Maintain the space, including organizing supplies, cleaning work areas, and ensuring the drop-in centre remains safe and accessible
• Support attendance tracking and basic administrative tasks as needed by staff
• Help build community engagement by encouraging participation, answering questions, and assisting with small-scale in-house activities
• Contribute to program delivery by bringing forward ideas for creative activities, community-building initiatives, or improvements to the drop-in experience
• Assist with occasional events, exhibitions, or special workshops hosted in the space
• Collaborate with staff to ensure Studio Central operates smoothly throughout the summer months
• Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Artbeat Studio staff

The ideal candidate is someone who leads with empathy and respect, and who is comfortable working alongside people from all walks of life. We are looking for a youth who:

• Has experience working with diverse populations, particularly marginalized communities, or has a strong desire to learn in this area
• Is mental health aware — understands the importance of a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach when interacting with participants
• Is warm, approachable, and able to build trust with people in a drop-in setting
• Can work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, community-facing environment
• Has an interest in the arts and believes in their power for wellness and community connection
• Is reliable, adaptable, and comfortable with varied tasks and schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends

Lived experience is valued. We welcome applicants who bring a personal understanding of the communities we serve.

Skills & Experience Gained

Meaningful experience in community arts facilitation, nonprofit program delivery, communication, and working in a diverse, public-facing environment.

Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be 18–30 years of age at the start of employment (While the Canada Summer Jobs program is open to youth 15–30, due to the adult nature of our programming, a minimum age of 18 is required)
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada
